Please add your personal experience with Wolf Military Classic ammunition to this thread. Please not that this only pertains to Wolf ammo in the camo-colored box, NOT Wolf in the black boxes. They are made by separate manufacturers; please refer to the Ammo FAQ, entry #3 for more information. When you do, please give information about: 1) Ammunition used 2) Firearm used in 3) Approximate number of rounds fired. Let's limit this to .223/5.56 ammunition, since this is an AR-15 forum. No offense to the guys with AR's in other calibers, but we all know that .223 chamberings are the most sensitive. I am trying to solicit only information about your PERSONAL experience with this ammunition. If you haven't used it, then please don't clutter up the thread. Information about proper functioning (or lack thereof) is obviously the most important, but factors such as the accuracy or other peculiarities you've noticed are informative also. If you have had problems with this ammo which were severe enough to cause you to stop using this ammo, then please describe them. And one more minor request: keep your reviews objective. And most important: IF YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE, THEN POST ABOUT IT. There's nothing so frustrating as seeing people vote "no" without explaining WHY. |
Daddy loves you. Now go away.

I have shot a few hundred rounds of the "laquer" coated and have had minimal problems......with a clean rifle that is.
It seems after a hundred rounds or so, my rifle experiences FTF. I'm shooting a bushy XM15. As long as I bring along some CLP and a rag, I can shoot all day long. |
|
Ammo: Shot close to 2,000 rounds of wolf (about an equal amount of black box and tan box)
Guns: Sig Sauer 556 & Lightweight AR (CMMG lower) I have never had one problem with this ammo. Due to my age (23) I have been shooting for a relatively short amount of time. When I first started shooting, I never shot the stuff because of all of the negtive things I heard about it. In reality, the steel casings are really the only concern I have. But, I think by the time you would begin to see the effects steel in the barrel, it is time for a new barrel anyway. great ammo to train with, even to stock. |

Departmental Qualification, 125 officers trained on the Patrol Rifles.
Rifles mix of Bushmasters and S&W M&P's. Fifteen students per day. Around 40K fired during qualifications. No ammo related issues. Most of the firing out to 50 yds, there is two 6 round strings of fire at 100 yds, and a "bragging rights" stage of fire, free standing at 175 yds. We had more issues with the American made Q3131 the previous year, with a few rounds having the shoulder of the casing crushed a bit, causing the round not to chamber. This ammo was NOT test fired for groups. This was two years ago, as at the time, this was the only ammo our Department could get in time. Normally buy Winchester on the contract, but entire order (all calibers) was severely back ordered at that time. |

I got some 55gr Military Classic for a tactical shoot- didn't want to leave my reloadable brass on the ground.
I shot half the order (500) zeroing my BM 20" 1x9HBar and at the match. Absolutely no problems, except I didn't have a spare mag carrier and my Mexican carry didn't work so well.
ETA: You will not load a mag with Wolf Military Classic from a stripper clip. Unless you spray it down with CLP. |
Ned, d'ye see those fellows on the hill? Throw your division into column at them and drive them to the devil.

I tried some 55gr soft point WolfMP in my 20" J&T HBAR upper this weekend, and it would not cycle the action. The case didn't eject nor did it lock the hammer back.
Remington 55gr SP and Miwall Reman 55gr SP both worked fine in that rifle on the same day. |

When you do, please give information about:
1) Ammunition used 2) Firearm used in 3) Approximate number of rounds fired. My info: 1) Wolf Classic 55 grain fmj 2) RRA Entry Tactical and a Spikes lower/CMMG 18 mid length upper frankengun 3) ~1000 rounds Note:The Wolf Classic consistently shot ~3-4 moa vs. 1-2 moa from the PMC Bronze I have so it's good plinking ammo but not particularly accurate. |

When you do, please give information about:
1) Ammunition used 2) Firearm used in 3) Approximate number of rounds fired. 1) MC 55grain FMJ Camo boxes, started with 1500 rounds. 2) Olympic Arms PAWS RRM16 3a) Upper 20" Olympic Arms, Approx 450, no problems 3b) 14.5" Bushmaster Barrel, Young NM M16 BCG, MGI Upper. Approx 900 rounds two different times shooting Problems, 2-3 stuck cases. Had a 4-6+ light primer strikes on Full Auto. Loaded a few of them again and they fired okay then one of them did not fire on semi, so I started just tossing any that had light primer strikes. Note. Light primer strikes or stuck cases didn't occur until the last 650 rounds fired, but atleast the one light primer strike was not a gun problem but the round it's self. The stuck cases could have come from a dirty chamber where I was trying to tinker with a 22LR kit, fired about 30 rounds max and was having problems, that's a seperate issue then did a quick field cleaning before switching to Wolf MC .223 ammo. I would use this ammo again. Semi-related to this but I'm starting to read up on reloading and I've done the cost comparison and reloading will be cheaper than these rounds. |

I've put maybe 5-600 rounds of MC through three of my ARs -
S&W MP-15T Del-Ton lightweight Carbine upper, built-up lower M1S 20" Heavy Barrel upper, Cav Arms lower The S&W was choking on the Wolf first, then everything else when it got hot - after I replaced the barrel with a Denny's 16" SS middy Recon, it's been 100%. The other two have always been 100% with Wolf (and everything else except for operator error and crap mags). I've had exactly 1 FTF - definitely a dud round, full primer dent, but no go. I tried ALL of these ARs at the range a couple of weeks ago, and the MC had the worst groups of everything I tested, by a factor of 2. While the M193, Hornady 75 gr, M855, etc. (didn't try the old stuff) was doing 1.25-2.25" groups at 50 yards, the MC was in the 3.5-4.5" range - consistently, and in every rifle. The MC also had noticeably less "oomph", along with the Barnaul 62 gr HP. It's also dirtier than the brass-case I normally shoot - a mix of yellow-box Norinco, 1982 Portugese and Privi M193. I have also noted that the gray "Polymer" coating does come off in the chamber - I shot it hot with MC, then left a brass-case round in the chamber for about 20 minutes while it cooled - it came out coated with the same gray color. Hasn't caused a problem, but I am careful to clean well after shooting it. I'm going to keep using it for plinking/blasting ammo - the price is right! |

1) Wolf Military Classic 55gr. FMJ
2) Stag Arms Stag 15 Model 3 3) 150 rounds so far Ended up having to leave early cuz of my ride getting called back No problems hitting 6" steel target at 100 yards most of the time, but that was me...i was starting to shiver in the 35 degree weather and 30 wind chill factor |

Wolf Miliary Classic 55gr FMJ
RRA 16" and Bushmaster 16" a few thousand rounds at least of MC The MC that I used all worked fine, except the M80 lot which I found was underpowered. It would shoot but not fully cycle the action and not lock back on an empty mag. Returned it to Wolf, which was a semi smooth process but it all ended up good and I was impressed overall. The other lots of MC I have used and still have all work fine with no problems. Eric |
| Used Wolf MC 55 grain, old laquered stuff in a high round count class (1500 rounds/day). I experienced no problems whatsoever. Ran a 16" Bushy. |

| Burned a 640 round sardine can of 55gr through a pair of Bushmasters, one a 16" 1:9 and one a 20" 1:9. One failure due to a primer that wasn't about to go off no matter how many times it was struck, but flawless functino othewise. Weapons didn't seem any dirtier than after a normal day of shooting. |

I answered "minor problems"
I lit off a few boxes of this stuff (55gr) when I fist built my rifle and had some short-stroking F-T-Feed's. I later learned that my buffer spring was not right. by the time I had got a new spring, I had lit off about 250 rounds of various ammo, so the guns was a good bit more broken-in. After the first 250, and with a good spring, all is well. But I DID have issues with it in a gun that wasn't QUITE right that the other ammo didn't fail in. (privi, PMC and Q3131 worked fine; wolf short-stroked every dozen or so shots; ) But now that everything is set, I keep a few boxes around for cheap plinking duty. so 1) 55gr 2) homebrew 3) 60 rounds - 5 failures :: 120 rounds since - no failures |

| I get good accuracy with the 55 grain fmj in my Colt Sporter Target and even use it for Prairie dogs. I get better accuracy with my 24" heavy barrel target barrel from Model1 and my Del-ton lower with two stage rra target trigger, but it seems to get a bit dirtier. All in all - about all that I shoot now-a-days. |

200 - 55gr Laquer coated Wolf Military Classic
DPMS upper 16" chrome-moly E.R. Shaw barrel & BCG Gun was clean before I started shooting this stuff. After 100 rounds or so, started to have some stovepipes and FTE's. Out of 200 rounds, I had like 5 stoppages. Started shooting some LC 62gr 855's and continued to have some stoppages, prolly gunked up the chamber. I believe it to be dirty stuff, and for a quick few mags it would be ok, but anymore and your gonna have to field clean your weapon. |

I've shot thousands of rounds through my carbines. I can honestly say I have never had a single issue that could be blamed on Wolf ammo. I will continue to buy and use this ammo....and it pisses off the ammo snobs!!
ETA - Over 5000 rounds through my Colt 6721, close to a thousand through a CD M4LE. Less than 500 rounds through misc RRA's, S&W's and Armalites. |

I've fired over 1000 rounds (total) thorough: ArmaLite M15A2, ArmaLite M15A4, Bushmaster AR15A2, Bushmaster AR15A3, Bushmaster M4A2 Patrolman, Rock River Entry Tactical & Smith M&P15X.
Never had a single problem of any sort EXCEPT with the M&P. M&P Short Stroking Link |

Now I have close to 3k rounds of Wolf through my rifle with not one issue. |
| I have several thousand rounds down range lots of rifles. No real problems. It is dirtier, It is not that accurate, it will not lock back on last shot on a few rifles that are new. Other than that, I will use it as long as it is signifigantly cheaper. If it were priced the same as any boxer primed brass I'd use the brass. |

55 grn fmj's and soft points out of different bushmaster M4's.
Had numerous failure to eject's. Works decent up to about the 200-250 round mark, then you get FTE's. The solution seems to be that you need to clean right around that number which isn't really practical on some days out to the range. I have found it to group decent enough for up close practice and plinking approx 36" steel targets at 200 yds. |

Wolf mc 55 gr FMJ and black box
Gun is a colt ar15 a-3 hbar, and carbon 15 pistol 7inch barrel Over 1k rounds in the colt, about 500 in the pistol Pretty much have had no problems, the times I did were my fault. If I let the gun get too dirty it wil get a spent shell stuck in the chamber, happened twice with the colt, once with the pistol, so no big deal. |
|
I just shot 60 rounds through a DEL-TON 20" upper. I had 3 FTE's. I don't get to shoot this outdoor too often and I tend to use the Wolf outdoors. I did a thorough cleaning after this outing rather than just a bore cleaning and found the gun to be fairly dirty. I hope this is the answer but, I will definitely take some other, basic brass, ammo with me next time.
As far as accuracy? Plenty accurate. It was giving me dime size groups at 50 yards with a 4x scope in a stiff breeze. I gave up after the third FTE. I'm not sure if the breeze was blowing the bullet but it was definitely moving the target frame back and forth!!

I fired another 150 rounds of Wolf Military Classic yesterday in the pouring rain. I had zero problems out of my RRA 1/7 Chrome Lined Gov't Profile M4 upper.
Accuracy was on 8" steel plates at 100 yards with an EoTech 511 (same with my Troy BUIS). Again, not a good measure of the accuracy, but it was raining and I was shooting on the move. |
| The 62gr FMJ stuff is all I shoot through my AR-180B. I did have a Bushmaster stainless barrel rifle and the stuff ran fine through it also. And honestly other than running a boresnake through the barrel after shooting I don't clean much at all but once a year after I'm done shooting for the year. |
|
1-2% stuck cases in a Bushmaster 16" CL bbl. My extractor was pulling the case rims off, and it took a rod remove them. Did not fire for accuracy. |
