Ammunition review - PMC (Page 3 of 4)

I bought 4 boxes of this when it was on sale, just to try it out. I didn't have any problems with accuracy. I thought it was a tad dirty, but not that bad at all...nothing a post range rifle cleaning can't fix. I thought it was great target ammo. Wish I had bought more while it was on sale, but oh well. I will definitely buy it again.
80 rounds (55 gr) shot through a BCM 16" middy, 1/7 twist. |
|
I've shot about 6,000 rounds of 55g PMC Bronze in the last 3-4 years. Two weapons are 16" ML 1x9, and a 20" RL 1x9. No malfunctions of any kind, and it doesn't seem any more or less dirty than other brands I've used. Accuracy seems to be about 1.5 to 2 MOA out of my 24" build, but I've only shot about 5 ten round groups with it. Irons and non magnified optics I get about 4 MOA. Haven't chrono'd it or done any other testing. |

| Just as an FYI, my local Meijer (a Michigan based stor chain) has/had PMC .223 Bronze on sale for 6.97 per box of 20. I cleaned out the Meijer in Brighton MI, they only had 18 boxes. I've used this ammo on my LMT upper 14.5" 1:7 barrel and haven't had an issue yet. |

As for my experience, I don't remember the group size, but 100 rounds of PMC bronze fired without any issues. |

PMC X-Tac 62gr. LAP (M855)
Rifle was an Olympic arms carbine with 16" 1/9" non-chrome lined barrel, stock BCG, PSA H3 buffer, and modified trigger group. (set screw mod, JP reduced power yellow springs, and lightened hammer via removal of the tail/spur, but sear surfaces were NOT polished, too risky IMO.) I shot 260 rounds of this today with no problems. Due to my level of experience, the fact that I was using iron sights, and that most of my shooting was standing unsupported, I can't comment on accuracy. I thought there was a separate thread for the X-Tac ammo than the Bronze, but maybe I was wrong as I can't find one, so I posted here. |
|
I've only shot a few hundred rounds of it with no complaints, but I really like the brass for reloading. It seems to stretch very little, especially compared to R-P.
I recently picked up a case of it over Federal ammo in various flavors because it was priced nice and I wanted to invest in the brass. |
|
Shot ~1600 rounds 55 gr .223 at a Haley Strategic class recently through a 16" LMT MRP, no problems whatsoever. Roughly 1.5 MOA ammo, had no problem making 350 yard first round hits in the longer range part of the class.
Bit low powered though. Took my extra home and chrono'd it, averaged out at 2650 fps out of the aforementioned rifle. However it's accurate, reliable, consistent, cheap, and even though it is low powered, it still cycled my mid length gas/H2 buffer MRP no problem. I plan to buy more. |

PMC Bronze: 500 rounds over 2 weeks, no problems at all. 2012 manufacture. PMC xtac 55gr: 900 rounds over two days, no cleaning in between days. 0 problems, will definitely stock up on these. 2012 manufacture. Both were shot from an RRA 16inch with midlength gas system using D&H aluminum mags

Over the past few years I've shot probably 1,500 rounds of 55gr Bronze through 4 different AR's. Never had a malfunction of any kind.
I consider it a 2MOA round, but someone better than me can probably do better with it. The X-TAC 62gr is something I've shot less of, but it does seem a little hotter than the 55gr bronze. As with the other, I've had no problems withit. |

I've bought about + 300 rounds of PMC bronze two or three 20 round boxes at a time and shot at least half of it, Its great stuff I like it more than any other brand I have tried so far. My local outdoor ranges stock up on this stuff and sell it at a better price than most of the stuff I can find around here so I buy as much as I can and then shoot whatever else I bring from home and keep the PMC for my stash.
(Disclaimer) I just started shooting this year and have shot less than 500 rounds so im not very experienced, but out of everything I have tried so far PMC bronze is my favorite. |
Shot thousands of rounds through Colt 6920 with no issues (it's a Colt dammit of course there won't be issues ). Shot X-Tax, Bronze 55gr and 62 gr. I prefer the Xtac 62 grain since it is usually more available than M855 right now and cheaper. But like the post above me said, prefer to buy American first. When Big C has the 62 grain available I always buy my limit, and of course with M193 is available at SG always try and grab that, it is the best ammunition in my eyes after Federal/American Eagle/Lake City.
|
| I pretty much only shoot PMC and Lake City bought in bulk. I've shot about 500-750 rounds of PMC Bronze 55gr .223 and recently bought and shot 400 rounds or so of X-Tac 62grain 5.56. I've never had a single problem with either of the PMC varieties and both are plenty accurate out of my 1:9 twist barrel. Its great range/plinking ammo....now if I could just find more of it to buy for reasonable prices I'd be happy! |
|
Have found PMC ammo of any type to be of very good quality.
Zero problems with any 9mm, .40, or .45 pistol ammo. Zero problems with the 5.56 X-tac 855 or 193, interchangeable with Federal far as I'm concerned. Only issue I have is the .223 bronze is underpowered, gets me a hiccup here and there especially with a full mag, could be blamed 50/50 on the light load and my AR not liking each other. Before crazy the stuff was under 0.30 per round so it's a fine trade off to me. At any sort of decent price I will buy PMC with no regrets or concerns at all. |

Took the new build to the range last week.
Ran Federal .223 55gr, AE 5.56 55gr, Winchester .223 45gr, PMC Bronze .223 55gr, and Tulammo .223 55gr through it. 200-300 rounds total, adjustable gas block wide open ( stupid handguard needs modified ). Had 3 failure to feeds, all on PMC bronze, but also all from the same magazine ( New Brownells USGI mags ) and likely the same box of PMC. Could see marks on the top side of the rounds where the bottom of the bolt locking lugs scratched the cases. After the 3rd failure to feed, handed the mag to a friend who proceeded to fire remaining rounds without issue. For the time being, I'm chalking it up to the magazine / rifle and not the ammo, unless someone convinces me otherwise. Note: I ran all brass first, then finished up the session with the Tulammo steel case. |
|
I purchased a 1000 rd case of PMC Bronze .223 last year (2013) and ran about 350 rounds of it thru my LMT MRP last June. I had no issues.
Fast forward to January 2014: Went to a carbine shoot in 25 degree weather and the same ammo would not cycle in the same MRP CQB carbine. One shot, and the bolt would short-stroke. I had some Lake City 855 on hand and it ran with nary an issue. The PMC Bronze will be relegated to summertime BS range sessions only. |
|
Over the past couple years I've probably shot a total of ~7,500 rounds of PMC Bronze 223 through two different rifles - a LMT MRP 16" piston and KAC SR15. Never had a problem!
I have less experience with the XTAC ammo, but I've shot ~1500 rounds of it through the same rifles - no problems yet. |

SHADI, If you keep your stash dry and cool your ammo will last longer that you think. I still have some PMC "Military" and "Target" left and believe me it works better than PMC "Bronze" I've been shooting lately. Impala |

I have fired about 1K rounds worth of PMC over the years - mostly through various Ruger Mini-14s. I have never had an issue with it, it always worked just fine. Mind you, I have never seen the 'Bronze' PMC ammunition for sale anywhere near me so I can't comment on that particular line.
My organisation has been using PMC-made 7.62 x 51 mm M80 Ball Linked ammunition through the MAG 58 GPMGs and the new FN 7.62 Minimi LMGs for the last year. I have not seen a single documented complaint and the round count must be right around 1 million rounds by now. That's pretty convincing to me. |
| Well I don't ordinarily buy factory ammo, but in another thread I posted major issues with a DPMS 5.56 upper using PMC bronze ammo. My other uppers and Mini-14 have no problems with it. I only bought this commercial ammo because I'm going to a training course and don't have time to reload 1200 rounds for it. This upper was to be a backup so no problem, but no more PMC for me. |
