I went to check to see how I'd get along w/ progressive eyewear and noticed my M4S was on full blast. I tried to get it to turn off and it won't. It otherwise seems to work normally, but now I have to leave it on the min. NV setting / 1st click, vs. 12 o'clock "off" setting. I thought it was possibly an odd low batt. indicator so I replaced it with another Energizer lithium AA and it still does it. I checked a PRO to make sure I wasn't just losing my mind about how they function, and it seems fine. I know you're just supposed to set it and forget it, but WTH is going on with my optic? Not enough action just sitting around in the safe?  I checked it about 6 mo. ago and it was fine.

Your rotary switch needs some repair. Aimpoint Customer Service is some of the best in the world, reach out to them. As a warning, have them check the serial number of unit prior, if it's listed as originally purchased by .mil, they will not repair it unless sent from /returned to a .mil address. (Personally, I'd leave it as is if all other positions function. I haven't turned off my AP optics in over a decade other than for battery swaps. ) |

Thanks. Crazy how this can happen to a $1,000 optic that rarely gets used, esp. with such a "bulletproof" switch design. I'm not sure if was previously MIL or not, thanks for the heads up. I hate dismounting zero'd optics, but is what it do. Doesn't the M5 and/or some of the micros have issues with optical shift between the BUIS and the sight post? Seems like they did, otherwise I might consider selling it and upgrading to something lighter, though I prefer the larger dia. tube. ETA: I cleaned the threads with 99% iso and lubed with a little silicone grease and it didn't make any difference. I sent the serial to CS to check eligibility. |

I have one that won’t go below setting 6 unless I change the battery, then it only turns off for a little while before staying on. AA batteries are cheap and common and the M4S will still run a long time even on a used battery, which can be changed without removal. Mine no doubt fell off a military truck so I have no problem NOT sending it in since I didn’t pay anywhere near $1000 for it. I’ll assume you didn’t pay full retail since you don’t know if it’s mil or not, so complaining about retail seems irrelevant to the problem. |
