Like the title says. Was helping a friend with an Aero 308 build. I’ve tried several different mags and they all seem to want to fall out and will not stay locked in. I’ve tried different magazine latches and same. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

If it is a standard type catch the two things that come to mind are the catch is not screw into the button far enough or the lower was painted and the catch can not seat deep enough because of the paint buildup. Maybe the spring weak? if it is getting bumped off the catch because of the carrier cycling that could be some other cause. I don't know anything about all the ambi stuff out there or the problems with them. |

It locks in, but not very good when you start shooting it falls out. Yes two different magpul and a mission first tactical. All with the same result. On a side note, I tried the mags in a CMMG lower I had and they locked in good. Tried then in my Aero and the Magpul worked but not the mission first tactical. I’ll get a extended button and is if that helps |

One of few things, Either problem with the mag catch threaded rod surface where it mates up into the slot in the lower receiver out of spec (may need to face that part so it can sit deeper in the receiver/has edge burs). The slot in the mag catch not milled deep enough to allow the mag catch to seat deep enough to allow the catch lip to engage the mag tab enoough,   The end of the catch threaded section should be flush to face of button, and if you find that button is 180 out with either end of catch half thread in or out, then remove catch, spin the button 180 in the receiver, then reinstall the mag catch.  Last one, do not use the mag as either hand hold, or as bipod, since this tilts the mag in the well, causing the rear lips to ride higher in the well, and will cause the carrier to crash in to lips of the mags. And to add, might want to try a few different mags, since the ones you are using, may be causing the mag to sit higher in the well, while other mags may not have the same problems. |

We have seen this happen a few times different guns. For process of elimination, try a few different magazines to make sure it isn't the magazines. You may consider installing a 9mm magazine catch, we have done this before with success several times. Thank you everyone. I’m going to try the 9mm mag catch, a extended button so I have more threads to work with and I think that I may order a steel mag, like ASC, to see if that helps. I’ll try and update when I get it done. Thanks again for everyone’s time. I’m not trying to shut the conversation down I just wanted to acknowledge all the help. I too am interested in the difference between 9mm catch and the standard. I’m guessing that it thicker and extends into the mag well father to compensate for the adaptor? |
