I left with a dead trigger, hammer down, on an empty piece of brass, so the bolt isn’t coming back far enough to reset the trigger or eject the brass. I tried with the Hudraulic Kynshot buffer, and with the included lightweight spring and buffer. In both cases, dead trigger on fired brass. The 17 bolt includes a small pinned weight at the back, like 9mm bolts do. |

The brass looks normal, and there’s nothing obvious in the chamber area that would be hindering cycling. I removed the weight for one of my tests, but it fits right back there in the bolt tail. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Kinda looks like the bullet is scraping the feed ramp as it enters the chamber as well. Wait a min, WHERE is your extractor?? |

Looking closer, there’s definitely a bulge at the base. Attached File This is my first 17. |

Ah, in your first group of pics it looked like it was missing completely Does the bolt seem to reset the hammer smoothly? Ie not binding up? If its functioning as expected hand cycling for one or two dry fires I would send that back to BCA. I'm thinking something is funky with the chamber. The case has to seal to the chamber but not so hard that it can't move as pressure peaks and starts to fall off. If the case is not releasing the chamber walls shortly after peak you just dont have enough remaining pressure to cycle the bolt. Edit to add. It looks like the case is flowing a bit into what looks like a dremel feed ramp. Also, the extractor cut looks a bit to deep, does the case rim look like it flowed into that cut at all? Either or a combo could be preventing extraction when it needs to be happening. |

I think I’ll try a 22 chamber brush in there tomorrow before sending it back to BCA. |

K ... so ... here's a shotinthedark for you. Have a buddy that runs a lot of 22WMR in a blowback semi. His secret sauce is a light shot of Hornady One shot to the cases b4 loading the mag. Thinking this may help of cases are mating to your chamber. |

Sounds like you don’t have enough weight between the bolt and buffer. There is a long thread detailing the trials with the BCA 17 HMR uppers on rimfire central. Keeping the bolt closed longer with heavier buffer and spring seems to alleviate the cycling issues. The forum members on RFC are using a 6 ounce buffer and Tubbs flat wire spring. Here is link to the thread with the BCA 17 HMR. https://www.rimfirecentral.com/threads/bear-creek-17-hmr-upper.1258255/page-11#replies |

There are no notes about what was done, if anything, just a paper target with fired group. I'll try shooting it again, I guess. I'll try that One Shot lube trick. Does it look like they replaced the barrel? I think that dremel looking feed ramp and slightly over cut extractor relief in the barrel were your biggest offenders for poor extraction. Hopefully what ever they did solved the problem. |

Hard to say if that's a new barrel. Either way, I'm seeing the same depression/dremel feed ramp in the chamber that the case can flow into and the extractor cut looks flat just like it was in your very first chamber Pic. The |

The ejector cut should be as deep as possible but still leave a nice round chamber, not a flat surface entering the chamber that the case can flow into... maybe this is not the case and just a picture angle issue? Ejector cut? |

My experience with a BC 22Mag upper was this. The first time out, the BCG got stuck to the rear 3 times. Each time I fired it. I suspected the supplied BC buffer was too light. Since I was using a rifle length stock, I installed standard 223Rem rifle buffer(5.2oz). The rifle ran just fine after. The exception being that it short stroked with Armscor ammo. The rifle was very accurate at 50 yds. That’s all I’ve shot it at. I’ve since gone to a collapsible) stock, with different buffer of approximately the same weight, though slightly lighter (4.6oz). But, I haven’t had a chance to fire it yet. All in all, the problem was easy to fix. Rifle is easily the most accurate rifle I own. |

Well, it’s running. I had one odd malfunction: I think it was a slightly corroded case, that partially failed to eject. More than likely, it was a round that I ejected into the snow a couple weeks ago and put back in the box. Otherwise, 4x10 round mags went fine. I wish I got an explanation of what the BCA guys did to it. Attached File |
