Right now I have a Nikon red dot mounted on mine. I modified a regular AR180B scope mount last year by whacking off the rings and attaching a weaver mount on top of it. It is not as low as a Josh Miller mount but it seems to work. I may go ahead and get one of Josh's mounts to get the optics a little lower for better cheek contact. At first I had a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32 scope on it and that worked fairly well but I wanted the 180B to be my CQB gun and I figured a red dot would work better. The ability to quickly attach or detach the optic and hold zero is great. I've put about 4000 rounds, many in 3 gun competition, through mine so far with no real problems. After I've recovered from several other recent gun purchases I would like to get a folding stock. Sorry, no pictures but thanks to those who did contribute. Great thread! |
Any thoughts on the "Great Dust Cover Dilemma" ??? I guess it's either find a source for originals...find a source to punch some out...or another solution all together. Anyone have any hair brained ideas??? |

Besides didn't you know, UPS, Fedex and Purolator don't deliver packages to Saskatchewan, shit seems to get lost in the middle of nowhere, especially when they don't give you an actual address other than dirtpile behind the grain silo...... |
Mine chucks them at about 4 o'clock, I get a nice neat pile behind me about 6 feet away, I have been using Barnaul ammo, 62 grainers. |

There was another for $525 on the ee a couple days back...frickin' steal. I can't wait till the adapters are done, I am not super happy with my folding stock job. Now for the handguards, I wonder how it would look with one of them carbon fiber tubes?, or a modified badger ord forend.....I am not a huge fan of rails. |
I figured why do it myself when some one else with a fancy CNC mill can do it for me. I have never had any troubles getting packages. How ever, UPS is the spawn of satan and should never be used to ship anything, unless you like paying extra for nothing. |

Well I went shooting again today, I had found some q3131a at a local gunstore ($5 a box, also has xm193 for the same price) and well, my 180b chucks barnaul 62 grainers at 4 oclock, but the q3131a went to 2 oclock. I could not tell any real difference in recoil or blast between the two, but I would suggest sticking to milspec if you are a lefty wanting to shoot a 180b. The barnaul also went further away as well. |
I think I know why this is. I believe it has to do with bolt speed. I believe that the 180B's bolt is actually moving fast enough so that, by the time the ejector plunger is ejecting the case, the bolt is already moving forward again. I actually had a problem where my AR-180B was ejecting Wolf 55 to the 2-3 o' clock, and was ejecting mil-spec stuff almost directly forward. This was resulting in the milspec cases not clearing the ejection port or actually being thrown back in. Some case reversals were noted. Too much gas was the problem; the gas port was apparently drilled too big as moving the sight block forward a couple hundredths was enough to cause milspec and Wolf to eject to about 4-5 o' clock. |
removal of the brake requires a hacksaw. Most smiths will charge in the $150 range to buzz it and rethread it. I did it in my typical shadetree manner...hacksaw and ground it to the right diameter and used a die I bought from brownells. Did I mention that I am a little off?....my rocker that is....

No I don't have any pics. That is something I'll have to do. I was planning to shoot my DSA SA58 but found out at the last minute that the range didn't allow .30cal weapons for 3Gun. I had my 180B with me so I used it. It has a Nikon red dot on it which wasn't the best optic for the course since some of the targets were clays at 75 yds. The lack of magnification and a bad mag that I had cut into my score but it was still good for 1st. The AR180B is really ideal for 3Gun since it has a muzzle break that helps with getting back on target quickly, the 18 inch barrel is a bit more accurate than some of the 16" AR15's, the reliability means less lost time or points and the light weight makes it easier to tote around while running the course. The low cost of ammo also means more opportunity for training. Everyone was asking questions about my 180B. Many had never seen one before and were quite impressed. |

I can't speak for Hepcat but I prefer my Eotech at the range over my Nikkon 4X. The Eotech os bright and accurate, and works well with Stormwerks mount. I would recommend it to you without reservation. I wasted money on lesser holographic sights, but once I shelled out the smokes for the Eotech I was satisfied.   Hepcat I'm curious if you've had any FTF issues with your Orlite mags. I bought three of them but only one will feed reliably. The one that feeds without probs is slightly different than the other two......I'll post some pics later. Edit sp |

Here's the latest pics of my AR180B after I finally got my folding mechanism on. Also glad I got the cheek piece as the RIS elevates the optics rather high. mine wasn't hard to get put on, I just had Armedsask do it (yuk yuk yuk), it is amazing now, I am just getting ready to mount a collapsible stock as well. If someone e-mails me I can get them to post a picture for me [email protected](no spam)

| Being a fellow Canuk, I'd like to say he did me a favour, but he lives 2 provinces away, which is probably half the size of the states, there was no history before, other than chatting on our gun forum in Canada (Canadiangunnutz.com), being that we were probably one of the original guys to buy guns from a dealer in the Manitoba area, we had the same thing in common and both belived that mods could be performed on the 180B, it just took initiative. Bryce (Armedsask) went into developing several different mods for the 180B and I believe the SKS as well, in the meantime I went ahead I think just before he did and had a 6" rail mounted to mine from a buddy who used to do gunsmithing for Colt Canada (former Diemaco), it turned out amazing and got rid of the piece of crap scope mount that came with it upon purchase. Bryce went ahead with the POF USA quad rail and as you can see turned out incredible, so I got the info from Bryce in regards to where and how to pick up the rail. My gunsmith kinda fell through and Bryce bailed me out in a big way, but he lives in Saskatchewan, so you could have problems shipping into Canada, I think you now need an export permit through your government and an import through ours (Our government are fuckin' wack jobs who hate guns - Liberals). |

Putting the POF rail on he 180B is rather easy. The hardest part is mounting a custom pic rail to the reciever. The rail must be milled to a certain thickness to interface with the section of the POF that extends over the reciever. This job is best done by a gunsmith. The barrel nut modifications can be done with a Dremel or other similar cut off tool and a drill press. If you use a mill it will look cleaner but who cares as you never see it. At this point in time I do not do the modifications for others on a regular basis. I WILL NOT under any circumstances do the modification for any Americans. I'm not anti-american, its your laws that suck and I don't need the hassle. Getting the upper out of the country is hard enough, getting it back in is a whole other ball game. If you want to do the mod, drop me an e-mail and I'll answer any questions.
