I'll post my pic when the wife lets me have my camera back.  But I do need to know something, I'm left handed and need an ambi safety, I called Armilite and the said they didn't know when they would make one. Does anyone make an aftermarket ambi saftey? and where does everyone get their aftermarket parts like forgrips and tactical slings. Thank you for y'alls help.

It should take the same ambi safety as an ar-15.

I have a few questions for everyone. I am thinking of getting an AR-180B and had a few questions.

1-How does the polymer lower hold up to use?

2-How does the Storm Werkz scope rail attach?

3-Is there any alternative handguard system available?

4-Does anyone have some pictures of the internal workings of this firearm?

Such as the upper receiver, lower receiver and under the handguards.

Thank you, Phessor

I installed the MI Rail system.

All I can say is WOW. It gives the 108 a really different feel.

I just hope the modding of the guide rods isn't a long term issue!

Here are some crappy pics:

Sure!

You need to dremel off the tips of the spring guides.....basically, the "cones" come off.

The included instructions are pretty vague but with the manual to refer to, no problems.

The rest is pretty straight forward; taking off the handguards, etc.

If you make the "crank" style charging handles, I will buy 10. Seems they'd be pretty easy to make. My idea was to modify the origonal slightly. Simply turn it on a lathe and then bend it. For the anti-rotation lug, just drill a hole and hammer in a roll pin.

Heck, make me 10 and I'll pay what ever it costs.

Okay, mine has now had the barrel threaded and an A2 FS has been attached.  I put on the bayo lug from ArmaLite that is designed to fit the clamp on FSBs.  I will wait until ArmaLite develops their folder which I am told should be late summer.

There have been several people that have claimed that the "only reason" they won't buy a 180B is because of a lack of chrome lining, disregarding the fact that most precision rifles don't have it, WWII Garands that still shoot great 60 years later don't have it, and my 30 year old original AR180 that does not have it still fires accurately and reliably.

Frankly, I don't believe they would buy one at all, but that way they can get in a dig at ArmaLite.

RECEIVER FIT: The AR-180B™ is not a custom firearm. ArmaLite® gets a close fit between the receivers, but normal manufacturing variations may result in play or slight side to side receiver mismatch. This is not a manufacturing defect and has no effect on accuracy.

No effect on accuracy.  Well it must be true because I read it on the internet.  I'm still gonna try and eliminate the slop.

Well crap!

This is what I get for not checking the index page of arfcom regularly - I didn't even know that there WAS an AR-180 sub-forum!

I've had one for a good while now.  Bought it back in '04 I think, close to two years ago now.  I just discovered the Ace stocks for the Bravo on their site a week or two ago while looking for something for one of my ARs.  That was one point I was dissatisfied with when I bought the rifle - the thin molded OEM stock seemed awfully unsubstantial, and eventhough I'm not all into having a folder the Ace stocks certainly seem to be more robust.  Now I've gotta trick mine out like you guys!

Another thing to add to the list of things for Armalite to fix:  the front sight.  Why the hell do you have to go through that queer-baited process of rotating the front sight ass'y around the barrel to adjust it?  Why not just make the front sight post AK/SKS style so that it's driftable with a cheap tool?  That seems to make a whole lot more sense to me.

Another thing that I've seen partially addressed here:  Armalite ought to just drop that silly-assed proprietary scope mount and put a section of Pic rail in place of it.  That could easily be done for the same money, because that trapezoidal shape is surely much more aggravating to properly align for spot welding than a section of Pic rail would be.

Anyways, them's my two-hundredths of a buck.

Now to peruse the rest of the AR-180 section and find a solution to my problem with Royal Ordnance mags not functioning properly in my Bravo.....

Has anyone tried to copy the Sig rubber dust block?

Haven't done anything on the FNC type covers. The stifening ridges rolled into the sides of the upper are going to cause trouble.

Re: Josh Miller's mount...

Can see through rings/mounts be used in conjuction with this mount?  It looks great, but a little on the high side...very similar to the B-Square.

I have an ACOG that I'd love to mount on my 180B, but to have the "see-though" hole on the ACOG mount line up with the iron sights, the ACOG mount needs to clamp on almost right on top of the receiver, like this:

I personally would like to see a picatinny rail that "permanently" attaches to the Armalite dovetail (ie, is not QD, and hence would probably not be as high), and use QD mounts on the optic.

I tried my TA01NSN on my AR180B and realized it would need a strap on cheek pad to increase the stock comb for consistant weld. My EoTech however is spot on.

My gunsmith somehow carved the dovetail out of it so it would fit flush, it was then drilled and tapped to the entire upper.  Actually the gun is away as we speak getting an entire new forend, I am getting a Predator 12 quad rail attached, so I can attach a vertical forend grip and flashlight, probably a surefire of some sort.  The rifle presently has a Bushnell Banner 3 X 9 Scope attached with a laser assemble.  The scope is mounted to an AR15 Riser Assembly and 6" Picatinny Rail that I picke dup from Brownell's.  I also have picked up a custom made 3 pt sling and desert CADPAT nylon case for it from Seals Action Gear in Calgary, Alberta.  She really draws a tonne of attention when I show up at the range or just truckin' about looking for 'hogs or coyotes.  This is actually the only AR type rifle we can legally use in Ontario to hunt small game or deer due to it's classification by the Canadian government.  Hope you enjoy boys!

here it is in some of its glory...want to do more work yet....mods so far include:

folding stock

buzzed barrel to 16" and added flash supressor (for the armalite guy that said it would look funny...bite me)

narrowed the tang on the bolt hold open device so it would work with all mags..made more sense than modifying all my mags...and was easier

Gun runs good, have about 800 rounds through it and no stoppages since the mods.  Only stoppages I had before were with PMP ammo with really soft brass cases.

good ol' Krylon for the paint (needs a fresh coat)

I want to put an ace stock on it when I get the cash for one, as well as get some different handguards, and possibly a scopemount, but I am in no rush.

Greetings Ottergt,

I haven't tried my ACOG on there yet.

The EoTech is on THIS MOUNT and it works well.

No, irons aren't usuable with the EoTech mounted. I guess you could get that "tunnel" mount from ARMS for your Eo....or get the GG&G level mount for quick detach to get fast access to irons.

I call my work "eskimo engineering".  I can say that because I am eskimo, no one else an because it is racist(j/k).I took spruce branches and sprayed them with black paint and slapped them across the gun.  I am not one to do alot of detail oriented work.

Here's mine (sorry for the dark pic):

It's wearing a Bushnell Trophy multi-reticle red dot sight on a B-Square mount.  Sling is a British L1A1 FAL sling.  The hump behind the ejection port is a homebrew brass deflector made from a rubber stopper JB welded on.   I'm left handed and was getting pinged in the face by the empties.

I haven't tried it yet with the dot sight or the brass deflector.

I've been wanting to get an AR180B to mod a little, and those mods of yours are exactly what I was looking to do.  I can't chop the barrel myself, so I'd send it off.  But I was wondering if it was possible to cut off the stock and add a folder...though I wanted a different one.  How did you do that?  Thanks.

If you have some hand tools you can shorten the bbl yourself...people who sporterize Mausers do it all the time.  Good sharp hacksaw (leave it long so you can square off the end with a good sharp file) to cut it off, and use the method in this link to recrown.

Can't speak to reliability with distance to the gas port & port size (although others here seem to have had success).

I don't think I have the balls to try that.  I don't have the tools to thread it either...I'm only 19, so maybe when I'm older and feel more ballsy than just building ARs.

Eh... why does everyone still think that you have to cut the stock off? There's a big bolt that runs through the stock and into the lower receiver. You just unscrew that and the buttstock comes off.

I used a butler creek shotgun stock cut and re-welded to fold to the left.  I am going to replace it with a ACE stock when they finally come out with an adapter.  IT was pretty easy to do, as far as cutting the barrel down..I guess I have big Balls, cuz I used a sawzall and then ground it down to size on a bench grinder to use as 1/2x28 die on it.

p.s. you have to cut the tang off the back of the receiver to attach a folder.

Whoops! I've never actually taken my stock off to look.

I thought it was another reference to epoxied-on stocks.

BTW, does anyone want to help me come up with a dustcover design?

I did some mud and dust testing and found that, while she handles dust pretty well, she choked whenever big chunks of mud/plant matter got into the receiver through the slot cut for the charging handle.

I was thinking about something that would close behind the bolt after each shot, kinda like the dustcover on the Sig 550.

Any suggestions?
