What's affordable to you? How accurate is accurate enough for you? My recent AR-10 had an eye toward affordability, but with better parts where it counts. I bought a Bear Creek receiver set, bolt carrier, and handguard (less important parts) and a KAK bolt and barrel. It's functioning well so far. That's the direction I would send you, a value receiver set and handguards, with a bolt and barrel from as good a brand as you can justify spending. |

Well I would have recommended building your own using Aero Precision M5 parts as a BASE for a custom build (Upper, Lower, BCG, LPK). But with Aero out of the game your only option would be scrounge up those parts from places like the EE here on this site or GunBroker. The stock, grip, handguard, trigger (I'd recommend something like a Timney or Velocity), gas block, and barrel leave many choices as the Aero is DPMS HIGH pattern and there's a lot of options out there. I have a dozen M5 builds in various calibers and they all are MOA capable rifles, at times sub-MOA with hand loads. So the platform, with a quality barrel, is capable but as mentioned, the AR10 rifle can get heavy quickly. Cost wise the Aero M5 parts were not too expensive back when they were operational. It's not too late to grab some Aero stuff but you're going to pay a little more than when they were up an running. You might look into just buying a M5 rifle and then slowly rebuild it to your liking. Otherwise, there are factory rifles that will perform but they will run a little more money, such as the LMT. |
