I’m getting close to wrapping up my 727 build (Gordon-esque; have an M4-D waiting for the form 4 to clear) - the barrel donor was a Colt 6921, and it’s on an A2 upper with M4 feedramp cuts (I never said it was going to be a perfect clone  )What I don’t really have a steer on, is slings of that era. The barrel doesn’t have any sling loops on it (being it was originally a 6921 it had the side sling adapter on it, which I took off for another project)…I was about to rivet a sling loop onto the usual spot, but held off for now. How were 727 slings done, and I guess more specifically, how were slings in general attached around then for the folks who used 723s/727s in the mid-90s? Paracord loops through the front sight block? Did Colt have the barrel mounted side sling adapters back then; were they “correct” for the era? Worst case I’ll just rivet the front loop on like normal and call it a day, I’m just kind of morbidly curious though

I’ve seen a guy burn his paracord off just firing a semi-auto. It’ll scrape the parkerizing off where it’s rubbing the FSB, but your sling will stay attached during/after an intense firing schedule. I see the Sergeant Major is using one in the above Gulf War photo. Yes, the side sling adapters from Colt have been around since the M203 was introduced in Vietnam (1968). They were part of the standard M203 mounting kit for the M16A1 and M16A2 so anyone in SOCOM would’ve been able to get one, but they didn’t start showing up in most photos until the M4A1 was issued (around 1995). |

I totally forgot those existed until about 20 minutes ago
