Early: 2 or 4-Position Receiver Extension A1 Upper Receiver (FA but no deflector) Small or Large Pad Port Cover Lock Washer or Peel Washer Late: 4-Position RE (still early for 6-Position) C7 Upper Receiver Large Pad Port Cover Peel or maybe Crush Washer Both: The "correct" barrel would be 14.5", but legality... Delta Ring instead of Slip Ring 6-Hole Small Hand Guards I'm just going by memory and from the many Colt ads posted on the internet. |

723's are a hodgepodge for cloning so you can really make it your own. At a minimum they must have: - 1:7 Twist barrel - N1 Stock - 6 hole handguards - A2 grip - Delta Ring - Round handguard cap - Lock ring instead of castle nut - A2 Flash Hider - Majority Peel Washers (99% sure) - Short Arm Safety Lever (no tick for A1 lowers and no tick or triangle tick for A2 lowers IIRC) - M16 profile phosphate BCG The only other thing I can think of that may be 723 specific is a square front sight post but I'm not 100% on that. Everything else is very flexible and can be used in any combination: - Pencil or M4 profile barrel - A1 or C7 upper - A1 or A2 profile lower - 2 or 4 position RE - Any forward assist type - Any ejection port cover type - Grey or black anodizing Distinctions between early and late configurations is kind of misleading as many exceptions to what are considered the early and late configs existed. The early models were probably the most consistent since newer parts weren't yet available. The first 723s had A1 uppers and lowers, pencil barrels, 2 position REs and mostly grey anodized. After that though, the proliferation of new parts into the mix made consistency among "late" models less common. The M4 profile barrel is probably the most pointed to feature of a late model 723 but there were late production 723s with pencil barrels too. The 727 was the first Colt model to exclusively feature what we consider the M4 profile barrel (and even it was a little different than what we have today IIRC). All that to say, I wouldn't worry about any adherence to "early" or "late" model distinctions. Just hit the mandatory list of parts and have fun making the rest how you want. |
