Just as the title says, 7.62x54R 7N13 AP with pointed hardened steel core. Dark purple - ish cannalure and red primer sealant. Head stamp 17/97

| Very cool; however as noted previously this is not the newer Russian AP ammo that is supposed to go through esapi's. Pretty sure that is called 7n37 or 7n39 something something. The newest stuff has an exposed alloy? core crimped in a brass cup. looks pretty distinctive |
| I've been trying to do research on this new Russian AP stuff, but I think people are overstating it's capabilities. I've read that supposedly the 5.45 version can penetrate an ESAPI out to 500m, yet I can't get M995 from a 22" barrel to penetrate Level IV at 45'. Same with the x54R version supposedly penetrating 2 ESAPI's, when I can only get M948 SLAP to penetrate 1 level IV plate again at 45'. Then again that's only based on my limited knowledge and understanding of armor testing |
