USSR, Podolsk (Klimovsk?), Russia, factory code (headstamp) 711/85 with black primer sealant or 87 with red primer sealant. Mild steel core. I find when pulling these cartridges, a little section of wood inbetween the roll crimp on the bottom of the projectile. Although the one fell out, have found others from this factory. Wolfgang

"711" is Klimovsk and the one with just an "87" in the headstamp is Romanian. The wood at the base of the projectile is likely just residue from the cleaning process at the factory where they tumbled the projectiles in sawdust... Not a feature of the M-43 bullet...

Sorry for misleading, headstamps are 711/85 and 711/87. Heard about tumbling with saw dust, but they must have wood in there aswell. Its more of a square chunk than dust. Any special kind of saw dust?
Start grinding with 80 grit, work up to 400 or 600 grit depending on which metals that are being sanded/polished. wolfgang |
