Anybody have any leads or insight? It looks like some weird black woven fiberglass but it almost looks like a rubber texture or thick paint in videos. Attached File |

I dug deep in to this about 12 years ago. I tried to find my notes so I could say for 100% sure, but I cannot find them. I was in touch with the guys at Knight's collection and got my info from them. How I made mine, which would stand to reason it's what they told me at the time (and is how I remember it), is fiberglass painted black. The weave pattern seen on most early guns (the AR-10 s, prototypes, etc) is not the correct weave. It is as it appears in your picture, more of a tight grid. I kind of remember at the time thinking more like a duct tape pattern. JT |

That's amazing  Doing a little research, Panelyte seems to be a catch all name for various composites made by the St. Regis Paper Company. They made laminates using paper, canvas, nylon, fiberglass and of course, asbestos. The G10 is a NEMA spec for high pressure laminate made from epoxy and woven fiberglass so, no asbestos here. That spec is still in use today so, @jntmjt1 is correct, it's fiberglass. |
