If my searches have been flawed, please point me in the right direction. I am looking for a 338 ACR rifle upper? Who has them? Which ones are better today, and how much should I expect to pay? |

I just checked some of the usual sources and there isn’t much 338 ARC on the market. Faxon Firearms has 338 uppers in stock. Nothing at Rainier Arms, Odin Works, Ballistic Advantage or Wilson Combat. I'm joining the club, with cheap Bear Creek parts on the way. Yes, I know, Bear Creek. I like their stuff. Their side charging uppers are great for low round count guns like the 338 ARC. I view the 338 ARC as a subsonic only, short to medium range cartridge. If I like how it functions, I'll upgrade barrels, probably to a KAK. It'll be a 10.5" barrel, with a Hybrid 46 can. Haven't decided on sights yet, probably a 1-4 power scope. |

Got my 338 ARC put together today.  It took a little work... she didn't want to cycle with subsonics, even with the Hybrid 46 which is a very gassy can. I first chrono'd the Hornady 307gr Sub-X Ammo to see if it was excessively underpowered, but it was above 1000 fps from this 10.5" barrel. I checked and double checked the gas block mounting. All that was left... drill out the gas port! Who cares, it's a 70 dollar barrel. My 2 boxes of Hornady ammo cost more than that. So I started with a 5/64 drill bit, that didn't cut it, then the 3/32 did! I suspect that if I ever shot supersonic ammo through this, I'd gas myself out completely. I was initially going to put this on a lower with FDE furniture... but I'm really digging the FDE and Green playing together. That Leupold 2.5x is an incredibly lightweight, practical scope. I wish fixed power scopes were more popular, with more models available. For magazines: I bought 10 round 400 Legend magazines, which functioned perfectly once the action had enough gas to cycle. I tried putting the rounds into my 17 round Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel magazines, but they did not fit more than about 6 rounds before binding. I'll be doing more research into higher capacity magazines. If I'm limited to 10 rounds, I might as well just shoot subsonic 450 Bushmaster, which is a lot easier to reload.  " />
