30.06 M2 AP headstamp TW/42, next to a 30.06 M2 AP headstamp LC/54
Very minor differences in the construction of the two in order to simplify production. The M2 AP (left) has an extra brass ring holding in the hardend steel core, the M2 has only a single ring. Wolfgang

M2AP is no joke. It's said to be more accurate than standard M2 Ball as well. I guess the penetrator makes the round more concentric. (?) Another rumor I've heard, that isn't really that unbelieveble, is that M2 AP could punch a hole through the thin section of a raildoad track. Never tried it myself. I do know that BAR gunners loved the stuff... 20 rounds of armor-piercing .30-06 delivered via fully automatic, accurate fire.....
