Well, today I got done some testing of the SG Ammo 5562T ammo discussed here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Does-anyone-know-anything-about-this-ammo-/16-793692/ and since the "Swedish" 62OTM was brought up, I shot it as well to compare. @bfoosh06 ----- Looking at you. :) Rifle: 20" Krieger free floated match barrel. 4888 rds on it Leupold mk4 on top. Range: -200yds benched and bagged. -slow fire: shot one/dry fire one. -10shots per group EXCEPT THE SWEDISH WAS ONLY 9. -between groups the bore was "snaked." Conditions: elevation: 5541ft temp: 61F 30.21" pressure 52% humidity Wind: S at 8 mph gusting to 14mph "Swedish" 62 OTM: -Case marked "WIN 17 5.56mm" -tip was closed to almost a point, NOTHING like the 5562T. 5562T 62 OTM: -case marked "WMA 25 5.56mm" -tip had internal pedals for lack of better term shown in other photos and had a cannelure. Photos are here: If you click on the results, they will enlarge. https://imgur.com/a/groups-swedish-62-otm-vs-5562t-vs-fr262-tunAL0s Results: "Swedish" 62 OTM: 3.032" 1.448MOA 0.962"MR 5562T: 2.966" 1.416MOA 0.920"MR FR262: 3.534" 1.688MOA 1.090"MR Thoughts: The bullet used in the "Swedish" and 5562T are NOT the same. (See the second photo). No chrono data, just groups. I was shooting sortta sloppy, and so maybe could've done a little better. Swedish was only 9 rounds. The FR262 was kinda disappointing. What was cool though is the "Swedish" and 5562T groups were 1/2" (.25 MOA) from another. And surprising was the FR262 about 1" (1/2MOA) from both. |

Good info ! Good to see current Winchester OTM shooting well ! I don't remember, does the 5562T 62 OTM, have an "enclosed" base ? ( IE, no exposed lead at the base ) |
*Hold on to your AR-15s. Their magic must be very powerful, or they wouldn’t want them.*

Here's the original thread we did on the Swedish ammo in 2018: https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/-ARCHIVED-THREAD-Winchester-5-56-mm-62-gr-OT-open-tip-/16-733815/? And a couple of videos Buffman did on it: ![]() 5.56x45mm, 62gr OTM, USA3162W, Winchester Made In Sweden ![]() 5.56x45mm, 62gr OTM, USA3162W, Winchester, 20" Gel Shot |

Ended up with a reload that works well out to 500. If I have some time I'll shoot these two against another, but what I found was every barrel can be different. What was a match in one barrel wasnt in another. End result you really just have to shoot it in YOUR rifle and see if it works. PS: my comments above are based on what I mean as a "match" ..... about 1/2 MOA from each other out to 500yds. Some shooters have a "match" when it hits the same IPSC target. Not bad mouthing them in any way, just different people have different requirements. |

PSS: @ChemTrailZ Again when I wondered down this road of matching trajectories, I found out one thing quickly. Using those trajectory charts (for a particular load) you find on line probably are accurate with that load by itself but they ARENT accurate in saying "this load" has overlapping trajectory as "that" load. What I mean is I would shoot two loads -seemingly similar as in say the same weight and velocity- but they were away from each other in actually shooting them. Meaning say I'd zero with "A" ammunition but then I'd shoot "B" ammo and it's say 3" low and 5" right from "A." You just have to shoot them under your conditions and see. Also, and I'm not throwing stones at anyone, if your desire of two loads that "shoot the same" is both hitting a IPSC target out to 100yds vs groups literally overlapping each other out 500yds, the former is pretty easy. The latter is much harder. What I think is the easy answer is find two loads that shoot close another and zero with one, note the different zero with the other and adjust your scope. |

I think I might be overcomplicating the question, but it's a BDC calibrated for mil specific ammo trajectories, it's not meant for the tiniest groups we can possibly manage, but hitting man sized targets out to about 500 yards. It's specced for m855A1 out of a 14.5" barrel, which has trajectory within a few inches of m855 out to the same distances(near dead on to 300 but the gap grows m855a1 has a slightly flatter arc past 300) to make the BDC usable. Other than standard m855, I know that FMJ loads that match the velocity will work, I'm just looking for something that uses a better bullet since I'm not paying m855a1 prices |

And yes, I could get a load/ammo that shot close to A1 out to maybe 200 but that 3-500 was hard. But with my rifles I found the M855 and A1 were NOT close even at 100 etc. |

Not to derail this thread, but I’m wondering if maybe handloading a 62 grain projectile to 3200 fps may be what’s needed, to more closely match m855a1. IIRC that Swedish stuff was in excess of 3100 fps so was probably closer to the hot m855a1 |

IIRC that Swedish stuff was in excess of 3100 fps so was probably closer to the hot m855a1 I'd have to look at my notes but IIRC, the groups between A1 and 855 were rapidly (as in +100yds) were over 12." Certainly, at 200yds, that was the case. As in shooting the two loads and looking at the overall size of both loads the rounds were beginning to fall out side a 12" circle. Yes, that is what I did. YMMV and this was my rifle, my conditions. I used Sierra 62 SBT #9362 and was able to get it done. Again, YMMV. |
