I have an “old” Colt 6920 that is a 16” carbine from approximately 2013. It was my first AR that really got me into the hobby. I now have a bunch of other more “modern” rifles that have midlength gas systems, etc, that I enjoy shooting much more. I really have no use for a 16” carbine anymore. What would you guys recommend doing with it? Chopping it to 14.5? Selling it? I live in a ban state, so no sbr option. Thanks in advance. |
| If you have others that you like shooting more, then I guess sell it? Doesn't seem you have any emotional attachment. There's usually a number of people looking for a Colt. |

| My 6920 from 2008 now hangs on my wall as my 20th century US Military "M4" example. I know it's not select fire and has a 16" barrel instead of 14.5", but everything else is the same and it came off the same line as the contract M4s were at the time. I say keep it. |

| I don’t know if you had it for what is now 16 years I would just keep it. You’ll regret selling your first ar. I had ARs that I paid 2-3k for that I sold that I never regretted once selling. But want to know what AR I regret selling the most? A 900 bucks Bushmaster Modular Carbine that was my first AR. In some ways I’m still looking for it but I doubt I’d ever find one again. |

I wouldn't sell it right now. Market is horrible and psa had used colts for 699 today although they did sell out. I'd wait for the elections or parting it out might fetch the most money. Colt parts are easy to move if priced just about right. Having a spare plain old carbine is always nice to have and it's battle proven. Do you have another place you visit often like a GF or family members house you could stash a spare rifle at. Plenty of useful reasons to keep it. Or trade fodder if you ever want to buy or have another gun you come across that the colt could knock a chunk off. |

I wouldn’t sell it. Having a spare rifle is never an issue. I picked up one of the “Carbine” when they lost the M4. Got an older one from AIM, trade in that was in just as good condition. Even better, it was an NJ agency gun… where I lived for quite some time. Sold the newer one to a newer officer. Have multiple ARs, to include SBRs and all other setups. The Colt stays, being I know it is good to go. If I do a class, it’s my backup rifle. If, for whatever reason, I can’t bring an SBR… that’s in my truck locker. Doesn’t owe me anything. |

Update it. I put a MI extended carbine MLOK FSB rail on my old 16" PD trade-in and breathed new life into it and gave myself lots more real-estate for accessories. I put a 6920 with a 13.5” handguard on the same lower as a KAC SR15mod2 intermediate upper on the same lower and the 6920 was softer shooting with Carbine, H, and H2 buffers. |
