Helping a buddy pick a barrel. He wants a 12.5 Im thinking carbine, slightly overgassed but will always run. Middy gas at 12.5 might be undergassed no? Looking at Faxon and BA for him |

Because he wants it. I doubt he will ever own a can and he wants a shorter one. New gun owner getting in before the VA ban. Bought his lower and asked for my help. I tried to talk him into a 14.5 P&W but he wants a 12.5. Nothing wrong with wanting a 12.5 pistol if you want it. |

While i love the idea of mid-length, it just seems as though it's a bit of compromise on reliability or at the very least needs more regular maintenance schedules from what I have gathered. I haven't tried it per say. I did just order a 12.5 Criterion core, LDR1, and P4Xi. About to redo my old 11.5" upper for something to stay in my truck permanently in a lock box. Of course that was carbine with a .066 gas port last i checked, so we'll see. This will be run 100% suppressed with a griffin M4SDK AM is the plan. I've never had a 12.5 before FWIW, just 11.5s, wanted a little more leg room for when I'm on the farm with 70gr TSX or 77gr OTM |

Either you have nearly none with a 12.5" mid or excess with a 12.5 carbine. There is just far less margin for error with the mid length, theoretically speaking. I realize there are plenty of mid length 12.5s running around that run fine, for my purpose at least I just wasn't really willing to chance it being finicky. So a properly ported carbine length with a flow through can and decent buffer system should suffice. However my buddy just told me he has two rosco k9 barrels in his parts bin and had i known that i would’ve held off of ordering the core. |
