Note to self, bump up the 6.8 SPC (or 6.5 Grendel  ) build up a couple notches off the back burner...........................If you can, and if you want to, get a measurement of the barrel before and after the step directly behind your barrel stamping and I'll make you a "proper" SPR collar, custom fit to the barrel. No charge. My FH deserves better.  Email me if you want one.

Why?? I could easily make something close out of the same material - I do have two, three foot rods of 8620 in my garage - and I could get the finished products case hardened to the same spec that Smith does, but I don't tread on other people's patented material, so I choose to modify their equipment. What it comes down to is this - I could exactly duplicate what Smith does, but I choose not to, as that's not ethically and legally correct. |

Mongo: If you wouldn't mind, send me a PM please on how much it would cost to have one of your 5 slot models made (36min per slot x5 ) without the external threads. Also, have you done any testing comparing that to a Phantom, Vortex, or A2 flash suppressor? I've always wanted one like that since you posted the pic of it on your SPR a long time ago.Thanks. |
I asked rsilvers if he could test it, as he had tested a shortened Vortex that I made a while back, but he stated he no longer has time for this. I have nowhere to night shoot and nowhere near the camera capability to do the testing. |

Also, considering places like Kurt's gets $225/hour for custom/prototype machining, I figure that I'm pretty much giving away my services, relatively speaking. Think about the custom FH I made for Duffy. With each slot taking 36 min in the CNC mill to cut, that's 3.5 hours on just slot cutting. Damn, I'd be a millionare!!!!!  Uhm, Duffy, we need to talk about your next custom build.

I'd have to get a tool custom cut for those slots, but I'd bet I could make something similiar, but I can't exactly copy his work. I'll add my own Mongo touch, maybe some type of monogram or something.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmm, I take it you're happy with it???? That looks real good, if I do say so, myself. How's that barrel collar fit? It looks extremely tight in one of the pics. It would be nice to know for future reference. Gotta love those MRPs.

That'll help me make others "blind". Ideally, I'd like to have the barrel in hand to make the fit exactly right, but I've been somewhat hit and miss doing them blind. This one measured 0.0015" over the dimension you gave me. That'll be a good starting point in the future. I like it also. I may have to make one for myself.
