Carbine barrel feed test. I didn't bring a mag well (du'oh!), so we improvised. Turned the whole gun upside down so the feed ramps and top cover were on the bottom of the gun. They all fed fine.

| It fed multiple rounds w/o a magazine using the well as a hopper? That could solve a LOT of issues for Connecticut, California, & New York. Next time could you get a close up of the magwell as you do it? I tried it in an AR and all I got was jams, and that was w/ magazine feed lips. |
| For the purposes of the feed test, the belt fed top cover served in the capacity of a magazine. The purpose of the test was to see if the feed ramps (a few were chipped in the 50 year old original extensions that were thoughtlessly demilled by the Klinton administration) would feed rounds reliably. Sorry to build up false hopes. |

Was turning my trunnion centering/tripod mounting pins today, when I realized I had two more parts to make if I want my gun to be a fairly accurate copy. The side cocking handle stud and the ejection port cover mount. I freed up a side cocking handle stud from a demil (easily turned down with my Sherline 400 micro lathe). I'll have to make the ejection port cover mount tomorrow. In order to make my gun as much Cadillac Gage as possible, I used two slightly rusted, demil rescue barrel retaining pins to make my trunnion pins. Those puppies are hard and the micro lathe didn't quite have enough ass (hope it's okay to say "ass" here) to do the job. Had to use the engine lathe in the garage for them. What a pain for two little pins. |

Thanks for the positive comments, all. Yes, the proposed CG semi auto sporter was labeled the Stoner 66. As mine will be utilizing a 63A type receiver, I'll call it a 66A to avoid confusion. |

I am struck by how much your "original" Stoner rifle shares with the Eagle Arms/"Armalite" semi-auto made from 2002 to 2007: (it featured a plastic lower, and it was not very popular, even though it was a piston-driven, lightweight 556 rifle with good company support/warranty):

God, I love this project. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to put a Semi into production. Alex Robinson missed the mark but I think he could've gotten closer had his attention not been elsewhere. Would it be possible/feasible for someone like PSA to turn this out? Waffen, you are doing a great thing here. ka |

It would be terribly difficult to do right. The Stoner is largely designed to be put together from welded, stamped sub-assemblies. The amount of tooling, gauges and assembly equipment that would be needed to do this project correctly is best suited to the Automotive industry. There was a reason that Robinson stopped making the M96....it was just too difficult to do correctly and profitably on a small scale. Quoted:

| Spent a couple of hours with the welder today. We are both hoping that we never have to do this again. Unfortunately, we did not finish all of it today. I have to go back later on in the week or beginning of next week. When we started out, the electrode kept coming loose and it buggered up a couple of welds. Once we are happy the trunnion is where it needs to be, we will finish welding it in. Couple more small parts to weld in place, clean it up, then mill out the ejection port. I'll post some photos a little later on in the evening. |
