(and even if it was, it's not 100% forbidden anyway). Here's my current work gun, regular AF guy. A1 flavor. My unit has enough ACOGs for everyone, and about half as many CompM4s as there are people, if someone wants to swap one out. Most of us use the ACOG most of the time. The guy who had this gun before me liked tape switches apparently, there is velcro on the upper on this side, and just above the magwell on the opposite side. Attached File The AF still has a ton of M16A2s in inventory in various places. I took one to Iraq in 2011, it was an M16 lower converted to A2 with a brand spanky new FN A2 upper. Some Colt database I found said the lower serial number was in the original block shipment of M16s the AF received in 1963, IIRC. I'm sure that rifle is still sitting in a warehouse on Hill AFB, if it isn't being used. |

So far, the responses here have been very illuminating, very informative, and unfortunately they're going to be expensive for me, because I still have to get an ACOG...
Which model ACOG is most common? Are there still TA11s out there, or are they all TA31s now? |

I believe the upcoming Army spec will be a 14.5" mid-length barrel and Geissele rail...not sure what the new spec will be called, but I'm sure someone here does. |

Quoted: Given the sling is pulling on the bbl, and the front sight is moving w/ the bbl, while the optic does not, that's not surprising. Have you observed that shift w/ the heavier bbl of the M4A1? Be interesting to see how much shift you observe from a red dot mounted forward on the rail when you pull the sling tight. |

G&R lists them for $40 but they’re out of stock. Arms Unlimited lists them for $42 but also out of stock. Specialized Armament lists them for $75 but, you guessed it! I’ll keep my eyes open on this. I’m a lot more likely to be able to swing a legit ambi safety than an ACOG at the moment.

Can you elaborate on this if possible? Do you know what the conditions are? Thanks Quoted:

They have found several converted rifles that would fire without the trigger being pressed. The rifles fired when the selector was rotated. The conditions had to be just right for this to occur, but troubling still. |

How feasible is it to contact the manufacturer and ask to buy one for personal use? What about an individual buying 50-100 pieces solely for the purpose of selling them at cost to get them to the clone community? It might help to explain the clone game and the dedication people in the community have for authenticity, even to the point of engraving 80% receivers, etc. Hell, send them to these threads to demonstrate the lengths some people go to. |

I'm sure it's akin to FN having to make their civi rifles in an entirely different plant than the contract rifles. |

A big company like Colt might sell in lots of a few thousand or maybe ten thousand, but it's just not worth it 50 safety selectors. That's part of the reason why so many AR parts manufacturers have sprung up to sell you and I a handful or parts at a time, as individuals. |

Here’s what I was issued 16/17 for AFG.
Basic M4 with RAS and Matech. Got the TA11 issued in theatre. EDIT: The Geissele SCH and sling setup were added by me. I wasn’t issue a sling
