[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Primary Arms SLX 3X Microprism (Page 23 of 24)

Quoted: American Defense or Midwest Industries mount with one of the PA spacers provided with the optic. I do the same thing with my PA GLX 2x and SLX 1x. Just a small PSA. I had a friend that had his 3x mounted on a American defense cantilever mount, his sling decided that it didn't want to hold the rifle anymore. When it let loose it hit the ground horizontally from about waist height, and from that point forward there was an issue. He contacted American defense, told them what happened, sent pictures, everything. AD told him to pound sand. If that's the case what's the point if they won't honor a warranty for something mild like that. We couldn't figure out why it was shooting so low all of a sudden. Attached File Notice the droop? From that point forward I moved all of my prisms to non cantilevered mounts. |

I’m running both mine on Larue QD with the stock cantilever arm maybe I’ll switch to the straight spacers |

Our Promise American Defense MFG, LLC products feature a Limited Lifetime Warranty. If you break any American Defense Mfg. part under normal operating conditions we will replace it, PERIOD! We will not warranty intentionally damaged or destroyed items, wearable parts or products damaged by normal use, abuse and/or poor maintenance. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the part which is returned to American Defense MFG and is determined by us to be defective. Warranty repairs and or coverage is at full discretion of American Defense Mfg. |

Kinda doublespeak. |

Quoted: Someone is making mounts for rmr or eps footprint. Looks like what a lot of people have been asking for. I might grab a 3x now https://www.tacswap.com/post/66e0b532393c0e681325e670 Grabbed one to check out. Bonus points for being a Michigan boy. Thanks for the heads-up. |

Quoted: Thanks for being the arfcom beta tester. A comment on the listing says they are gtg but tacswap is a nightmare so looking forward to see how you and others here like it Yeah, we'll see. I'll be able to tell you if seller is g2g, and report back on what I receive, but don't expect destructive testing or anything - I don't have that kind of money |
|
Quoted: Yeah, we'll see. I'll be able to tell you if seller is g2g, and report back on what I receive, but don't expect destructive testing or anything - I don't have that kind of money I love the idea of that but don't most people run a cantilever on the 3x? That placement looks more like where people run the 1x. |
| They are showing it with a more reasonable height to use the reddot. Looks like it has a spacer built in so you could still use it cantilevered, it will just be that much more higher of a reddot. I think the cantilever is what makes the mount susceptible to bumps/falls bending the mount. |
|
Quoted: Indeed that this mount is potentially A solution, but not THE solution. Looking at the construction, to add height or cantilever to it would require doing so between the base and the mount - not ideal, if even possible. Being that cantilevers can bend (and maybe so can this), and I like piggybacked red dots that are as low as reasonably possible, this looks like a contender to replace my odd-yet-functional solution posted earlier in the thread. A solution for me, but perhaps not everyone. ETA: I'll take copious pictures once received, then maybe Brassfacts can buy one to wreck ETA2: This is where the problem will be. Like a cantilever mount, or the PA piggyback mount, when stress is applied, this is where we will see damage. It isn't a question of whether it will fail, but how much force will it take? I'm not equipped to run those calculations, nor will I be dropping my rifle directly onto it and one of my MRDSs. I gotta leave that to the influencers who get ad revenue. https://i.imgur.com/jgWF3NN.jpg The good news is that the weakest point, as mounted, is not fully hinged (right at the overhang), but at least partially supported by the base: https://i.imgur.com/dgTnrGT.jpg They could just extend the tail 1 or 2 holes. Thread the front one like a kram so it doesn't need the optic above it. I like the basic idea I just don't see it sitting back far enough. I wonder if a 5.5 kram to move the whole thing back in relation to base would make it obnoxiously tall. |
|
Quoted: I will start this post by saying that I do not endorse this set up, or claim that it is ideal for me or anyone else, but rather it is just a fun experiment I wanted to do - as someone who also likes the micro-prisms, and also likes having a top-mounted MRDS - to try and address this issue using a COTS approach without using the PA mount which has been determined to possess less than optimum ruggedness: https://i.imgur.com/9l41f7P.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CZgjCW7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/v62JB7r.jpg This is the PA low mount and an Overbore Systems Night mount with a Vortex SPARC Solar atop. I do not find the low mount ideal, but it is useable, and does give the best view through both optics. https://i.imgur.com/GaCXved.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eyzVoyJ.jpg This is the same setup with the low-riser on a Larue LT105. Seems to put it around the 1.54 level. It's much better for viewing the SLx and, despite what it looks like, you still have an un-occluded view through it. Maybe a shadow starts at the top a little earlier as you move your head than if the MRDS mount wasn't there, but if you have your head positioned optimally, no shadow. However, the prism blocks about half of the SPARC. You can still get the dot, of course, it's just in the top half of the optic if you need it. Just tried this with a unity mount and 3x prism in a low adm mount. Somehow it worked with no visible occlusion. |

Quoted: Just tried this with a unity mount and 3x prism in a low adm mount. Somehow it worked with no visible occlusion. It works surprisingly well, I have to admit. Better with a collapsible stock running NCH than the fixed stock I had it on, there. It was actually the Unity micro mount and FTC magnifier that led me to try it. I found I could use the magnifier in the stowed position and it got my gears turning. |

Quoted: Okay, so first thing's first: I received the mount, and the TACSWAP seller is g2g as far as I am concerned. Let it be known that, geography aside, I am in no way affiliated with this seller and have no monetary stake in this. The mount looks and feels good. Seems solid. Like I said, I won't be dropping it on its head to find out if it's cast MIM, or 3D printed or anything, but seems good to the eye and hand. Dimensionally sound - no play whatsoever on Holosun. It almost snapped into place. https://i.imgur.com/cIpXCXH.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/YTony3e.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/enLyLYu.jpeg It is advertised as working with the stock ARD, but I do not have one to test. That said, there does appear to be space enough built into the design to accommodate the ring, and I think the rest of the ARD, being a smaller diameter, should nest into the 'sunshade'. https://i.imgur.com/PEEPt6g.jpeg Height comparison to Unity 2.26 micro mount. Appears pretty close to Trijicon top-mounted MRDS heights (~3" height over rail). https://i.imgur.com/BfV9z5S.jpeg You can add the stock mounting options in between the base and mount if you like. https://i.imgur.com/Ze4QbaT.jpeg Initially, I had this mounted to the base squarely, taking advantage of all three mounting screws. This was fine, and very secure, of course, but I did play around withsliding the base forward and mounting with only the two forward-most holes, which moved the optice back just a tad without increasing the height. I have to believe that 2 screws is still plenty-enough if one were so inclined. https://i.imgur.com/cEQU7H9.jpeg Let me know if you want to know or see anything else. Wow! That's pretty genius. Thank you for sharing the pictures!! |

Quoted: Anyone know if a midlength FSP is visible through this optic? Was trying to watch on Brass Fact’s video and it is difficult to see for sure. I’ve got a flip up that would be about the right length to test let me get it out after hunting today and I’ll see never actually looked. |
| I really REALLY love PA 3x micro prisms....but they just seem to keep going out of focus on me, worse than their lpvos, worse than anything, and I just can't understand it. I know I have astigmatism, and my eyes are slowly getting worse...but I really don't understand this phenomena. |

For anyone interested, the gentleman has version two up, which is an all-in-one apparently: primary-arms-1x-3x-5x-multipurpose-mount-v2 (No personal financial interest) ETA: Here's V1 as I have. |
|
I was shooting my 3x micro over thanksgiving and all of a sudden for no reason the windage shifted about 6 foot at 100 yards. I was able to recreate the shift by wrapping the optic with the heel of my hand. No change in elevation. Add this to a faulty shake awake on my 1x and my confidence in these optics is fading. Sucks because I love the form factor. There really isn’t anything out there like them. |
|
I'm using this to have a 16" 1/8 223 Wylde for hunting that weighs 5 pounds with optic and suppressor. Attached File So far so good. Heading outside today to see how it does at 100 yards. Attached File |
