FOR THE SWITCHBLOCK TEST, I WAS SHOOTING A 16" NOVESKE MID-LENGTH WITH MY SUREFIRE FA556AR SUPPRESSOR. THE GAS BLOWBACK DOING FIVE SHOT BURSTS SUPPRESSED WITH THE SWITCHBLOCK IN THE "NORMAL" POSITION WAS SIGNIFICANT. HOWEVER, WITH THE SWITCHBLOCK IN THE "SUPPRESSED" POSITION, THE BLOWBACK WAS NEGLIGIBLE.

I DO AGREE THAT THE SHORTER THE BARREL, THE GREATER THE SHOOTER WILL BENEFIT FROM THE SWITCHBLOCK.

GOOD SHOOTING,

WES

I wonder if this is an acknowledgement that it will only work with specific barrel & rail length combinations, or a statement that the block was designed for the gas pressures of a 10.5" barrel & carbine length gas system which coincides somehow (perhaps is to scale?) with the gas pressures of a 16.1" barrel & midlength gas system (which desired reduction percentage(s) may be close enough to work with one setting)?

I sure wish it fit under a rail...

I didn't talk to John about it, I know he's a busy guy.  My impression (again could be wrong) is that each model of the Switchblock (or at least the metering device inside it) is sized for the correct unsuppressed and suppressed gas pressure for a specific barrel length, as varying the length of the barrel & gas system would require a different gas port / metering device size.  And that at the momment only two models are available (10.5" and 16").

I would imigine with time more barrel length combos will be available.  And who knows maybe a version that will fit under a VIS rail... adjustment knob extenstion?

Not being a Suppressor expert / designer, I do believe some suppressors are more prone to blow back then others.  And of course semi-auto vs. full auto will influence thngs too.

My M4/SPR AAC can seems to work pretty damn good at stopping excessive blow back. but it's also used on a semi auto only rifle.

I have had one on order for 3 months.  John Wouldn't sell it to me until his patent was done.  He said it should be under $200.  I know he gave away a couple at the shot show.  One to AAC and one to Robert Silvers.  Should be some good feed back from Robert at silencertest.com

So if the Switchblock is designed for use on a 10.5" barrel, that would preclude any rail system aside from a 7.0 and 9.5FSP correct?

If that's the case then there would be no way presently to use this gasblock on something like a MRP barrel correct?

Currenty 10.5" and 16" barrels.  I would venture to say more sizes to follow.

With a 10.5" it looks like you're correct.  a Vltor CASV-EL might work, as well?

Please post some info on freefloat tube fit, pics too.

As this device gets more effective on shorter barrels, how would it work on a 7.5 Noveske-- and what handguard would go with that?

Thanks

Hey Wes:

Any chance you could post photos, mocked up or otherwise, of what an 10.5" MSTN upper and/or a 16" MSTN upper might look like sporting this gas block?

As a side thought.....if shooting non-suppressed on full auto with the Switchblock set to the "S" setting, would there be enough gas pressure to cycle the action? If so, how much would it effectively reduce the cyclic rate?

So I'm looking for the roll pin that attaches the gas tube. Is the pin and tube attached in the valve and if so, does the valve rotate the gas tube in order to regulate gas?

For the fellows who like having their gasblock under the rail, why not offer a special model that has the switch handle removed and the hole assembly downsized to fit under the rail, then have a shaft inserted into it from the front of the rail and attached to it is a dummy type gasblock housing that is pined to the barrel and houses the switch, allowing the desired rail length with any gas system, and maybe make a model that has the ops inc shoulder built in, just a thought.

NOTE THE SWITCHBLOCK'S DESIGN WITH THE STRAIGHT, ROTATING GAS TUBE. THERE'S NO WAY TO FIT ALL THIS UNDER A FOREND.

SOME LONGER TWO-PIECE FOREND DESIGNS COULD EASILY BE MODIFIED TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE SWITCHBLOCK, OF COURSE.

WES

Could this special gas tube be the reason for the specific barrel lengths?

The SWS Extended Length Carbine Model forearm might work very well also.  It does not extend as far to the sides of the FSB as the DD 9.5fsp.

Looks like another good product from John Noveske.  The only issue I see with it is you have to use a shorter rail which will work counter productively to the use of a light such as the X300 on the top rail in front of your sight.

Now, if they could make the top of it as a rail ???

EACH BARREL LENGTH AND CALIBER WOULD REQUIRE EXTENSIVE TESTING FIRST. NOVESKE WOULD HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE CORRECT PORTING, WHICH I AM QUITE CERTAIN HE COULD DO.

THIS IS A GREAT INVENTION.

Not possible unless you have a special barrel made with an oversized gas port.

I don't see the problem with it. Open the up the gas port a little and keep the switch block on normal so the gun isn't over gassed. But having the option to over gas your gun is good thing. The alot of other rifles like the FAL have it and with over gassed guns like the AK it seems to makes it more reliable giving more bolt velocity to punch through the crud.

WHAT YOU PROPOSE WOULD ABSOLUTELY WORK.

HOWEVER, THE SWITCHBLOCK WAS DESIGNED TO ADDRESS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT, LARGER PROBLEM FOR THE HIGH SPEED/LOW DRAG COMMUNITY, TOO MUCH GAS WHEN SUPPRESSED.

WES what is the additional price for a rifle length switchblock?
Instead of a low profile noveske.
