Got some Wolf 55gr Made in Russia from a Gun show this weekend. These have the red wax and no "P" on the casing. This has to be the dirtiest ammo I have ever tried. Will never buy WOlf again.I went through about 300 rounds had one mis fire. And a whole lot of carbon/wax deposit in the gun. I will stock up on Brake Clean before stocking up on Wolf again. |

The "P" is not on the casing. It is on the cardboard CASE that the ammo comes in. The black 20 round boxes are the exact same as the old stuff which you have stated you have so you need to open them before you buy them to make sure its the new stuff. That stuff you have is the old junk and is the reason for the improvements we are discussing in this thread. Trust me, if you fire this new stuff we are talking about, you wont be disappointed. 1179, The 62 grain is the stuff that I have been using and writing my reviews about. As far as an online place to buy it, I'm not sure. I have seen one or two sites but they were overpriced. This stuff is so new that Wolf has not even officially announced its release yet. Until dealers sell their stocks of the old stuff, the best advice I have for you is to go to a gun show or local dealers and see who has it and for what price. You should not pay more than $85-$95 for a case of 1000. |

I have shot 1000s of rounds of wolf through my Bushy, but that's with chrome lining and a 5.56 chamber, maybe that makes a difference? Seems like a few guns seem to choke on it. |

i must have great luck as I never ever had a failure with wolf ammo in my AR or AK... i did have failure to feed with some remington hollow points though , as weird as that might be... I use wolf when I feel like simulating the sounds of black hawk down...just pulling the trigger and blasting... however I give it a good cleaning when I really want to hit the target and use either Black hills 55 or 62 or the tried and true federal XM193...gotta love the muzzle flash. however this is good news if they removed the laquer as it means that wolf is listening to the people now if only the politicians would do the same and drop the ban |

Just got 300 rounds of the 62 grain from sportsmansguide.com yesterday. They had put the Wolf on backorder for January 4, but then I got an email saying it was on the way. The cartridges look 'bluish.' Only red 'sealant?' is around the primer. Of 1000 rounds through my year-old 20" Bushy so far, at least a third have been the old 55 grain HP Wolf. Since I usually fire Winchester and Federal the same day, I can't really comment too much on how dirty Wolf is, but I clean every firearm after firing anyway. May not get to try this stuff for a few weeks, but if its at least as good as the old Wolf (ZERO FTFs so far) I'm happy at 11 cents a round. Like others have posted, when I want to see how many shots I can put in center of mass on a silouette at 50 or 100 yards, Wolf's my ammo! Figure I will finish up the leftover 55 grn HPs at an indoor range this winter. |

So you purchased 300 rounds of 62 grain Wolf ammo that is most assuredly the new polymer coated stuff, NOT the old green lacquer stuff from sportsmans guide? If so, could you please tell me which product number you ordered? In thir online catalog, they make no mention whatsoever of their Wolf being either lacquer or polymer. Normally, I buy WX2-52591, which in the past would get me 1000 rounds of 55 grain lacquer coated Wolf for only about $85 delivered after buyers club discounts and coupons. Are you suggesting that perhaps if I ordered WX2-52591 today I might actually get polymer coating? And rest assured, its not worth calling them to ask...their phone reps are absolutely clueless. Can anyone confirm in any way that polymer coated Wolf is available from SportsMan's Guide? Thanks |

perdurabo specifically, and every one else... i bought 3,000 rounds of the wolf 55gr 223 from sportsmans. it came on monday dec 29th. i ended up paying about 9 cents a round. it was ALL polymer covered, NO red sealant. i dont know if you guys have noticed this... but the cardboard cases (per 1k) the new wolf comes in are a lighter, grey type color. as compared to the reg wolf... which was more yellowish. i plan on shooting it over the weekend. i dont plan on accuracy testing, (no benches where i am going, and the ground is to wet for prone). but i am gonna give some gallon jugs full of water the SCARE of their lives. i will let you know how it turns out when i am done. I have shot several thousand rounds of wolf through different AR's, M16's, a G36, and an M249. All worked beautifully. Failure rates were on par with other 'higher quality' ammo brands, and though wolf isn't as accurate as some others, who cares when you're doing mag dumps into the desert? I can't wait to try some of the new stuff! |

I went to the Cow Palace gun show today. Miwall did not have any "P" Wolf ammo in .223-$95.00. He did have it in 45acp-$115.00, and 7.62x39-$? but you have to ask specifically for it. Said they might get some in two weeks. It might be cheaper to order from sportsmans guide delivered. |

!!!RANGE REPORT!!! First off, I fired 1170 rounds in one shooting session on friday.... with NO cleaning during the day. I used a Bushmaster 16" HBAR, chrome lined bore and chamber, the only mod to the weapon was a D-Fender. The ammo used was the new 55 grain FMJ wolf, with the polymer coating, (I know this is what the thread is about, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows). There were NO failures to feed, NO failures to extract, & NO failures to fire during the WHOLE day. I THOUGHT (I have no hard evidence) the ammo ran cleaner than the reg wolf. I did NOT shoot at paper, but had no problem shooting at gallon jugs and 2 liter bottles at 50 yards. Accuracy was VERY acceptible for me. I did NOT clean the weapon at all during the shooting session. MOST IMPORTANTLY....not ONE case got stuck in the chamber, not ONE. I have pounded MANY fired wolf cases (the old ones) out of the chamber with a hammer and cleaning rod, I have actually RUINED 3 rods doing so. This new ammo DOES NOT GET STUCK, let me say that again, it DOES NOT get stuck. I even performed "the test." I shot 8 mags, as fast as I could pull the trigger, got the barrel nice and hot, then put a round in the chamber (YES, I KNOW, I POINTED THE WEAPON IN A SAFE DIRECTION, IN CASE OF A COOK OFF) and kept it pointed in a safe direction. Then I let it sit for 5 min. Usually, when using the OLD wolf, this would cause a case to stick to the chamber and fail to extract when fired... BUT NOT THIS TIME. The NEW wolf fired and ejected like any other round.... I was VERY happy. I am very happy with the prices and service, but I ALWAYS use the coupons when I order. They are EASY to find online. If you can't find them start a thread, some one on here usually knows the current coupon codes and is always more than happy to share. I HIGHLY recommend this ammo. I just decided to buy a case of this new wolf stuff ( used the link and code to SPG) I have never fired wolf from my AR b4 mainly because of the bad rap with laquer, and cuz I could buy S. african, well since my SA supply is getting dangereously low, I took the plunge on this new stuff....I'd really hate to pass a good product off as crap without first experiencing it, and this new poly stuff has gotten some really good reviews from people on here. Im really crossing my fingers that this stuff is pretty good. because if it is then wolfs gonna have a new customer. As a side note, I just bought a new chromelined BM 14 1/2 m4 barrel, and was wondering should i just use the wolf to break in the barrel or maybe something a little better at first like the SA or some XM193? -Brian- |

Listen guys, about these hot rifles of yours that are too good to shoot russian ammo through...blpehlwlerwewe!1!!! (read Mr. Bean making a funny noise through his lips there) Who here has ever given evidence to the Russian ammo wearing out a barrel or extractor prematurely??? Just how much does an extractor or barrel cost????! How much money would you save on Wolf ammo compared to ss109 after say, 15,000 rounds? About $1500 bucks that's how much. Do the math. |

I had an Armalite that shot the old Wolf fine. Never had a problem of extraction. BUT, I do have a Colt 551 upper that won't do more than 60 rounds of Wolf without getting a case stuck. I know it's a tight chamber problem, and I do mean "PROBLEM". As soon as I get around to it I'm going to polish out that chamber until it does work reliabley. Incidently, it's definitely not the first Colt I've had that had a chamber problem. |

I have shot the wolf ammo and it shoots fine, but I'd rather shoot other ammo when I can find a decent deal. I know everyone gets tired of hearing about gun control laws and losing our rights to own guns. But the gun grabers are getting smarter all the time. The Democrats that oppose private gun ownership have learned it is political suicide to even talk about gun control, especially during an election year. We showed them that in 2000. There are many more ways to take our rights other than legislatively. The issue of child safety, holding manufacturers liabel for guns used in a crime, etc. But the end run could be taking all our ammo sources away. Our guns would be useless when we run out of ammo. Just as we enjoy cheap imported goods, a lot of our jobs have been moved overseas, some of our ammo is coming from foriegn countries and we enjoy the low price. When all the domestic ammo makers decide to move their production to other countries so they can compete with the import prices, we will be dependent upon imported ammo. It would be a simple move to ban importation of just a few evil calibers at first, then they will chip away till there is a complete ban on all ammo importation for sale to the general public. Oh, powder and primers will have been banned also as a hazardous substance. I know, gloom & doom. I probably won't live to see it, but you young shooters out there might. When you buy your Wolf ammo, think about the long term, when you are 50+, do you still want to be shooting? You have to start protecting your future sooner, not later. Sorry if I bum you out but these things are very possible. There are some very intelligent people working to disarm the US every minute of the day. Thanks, Phil |

I think the day they take away our ammo is the day us gun owners bust into our SHTF ammo supply and make a little march up capital hill...guns-a-blazin...I really dont think, allthough it is possible, anything is, that they will ever ban ammo....for this reason, take away our ammo, we might as well hand over our freedom too...I for one WOULD FIGHT! -Brian- |

| The erosion of our right is slow. When it comes time to crack open the SHTF stores, you probably won't know who the enemy is. It is better to not let it go that far. Support pro-gun candidates, get as many of your friends and relatives into the shooting sports and urge them to support pro-gun subjects. And support our domestic ammunition makers and gun makers. |
| Bought 1,000 rounds of this new Wolf polymer-coated stuff at Sportsmans Guide, thanks to this thread. I show about 300 rounds of it through this past weekend, and it was great! I had about three FTFs with my Bushy 20", but it shot nice, bump-fired great, and I'm going back to get more!! [:D] |
