[ARCHIVED THREAD] - EOTech Models explained!! Pics of EOTech Prototype Magnifier on pg4. (Page 2 of 5)
LOL Yes the EOTech will work with the SIR 50 bi-level fore ends. One of the main reasons the SIR 50 was made was so that EOTech users could co-witness the irons. |
| Is the rear portion of the SIR too high for the EOTech if you want to drop the irons into the lower portion of the window like that Larue mount? I'd rather not have the sight way out there adding weight to the muzzle end of things, but at the same time I don't want to write off an SIR and EOTech combo for my rifle (when I get one). |
Yes, the raised rail on the SIR is too high to allow the EOTech to properly co-witness the irons. After using the SIR 50 and the EOTech for a while I came to the same conclusion and decided I did not like running forward mounted all the way. That's why I replaced my SIR with a Knights FF-RAS MRE... |

How will an EOTech work mounted on either the Surefire or Yankee Hill fore grips. Rock River is using the Surefire fore grips on the DEA Model, but it appears they mount the EO Tech on the upper. I've read reviews that say both of these fore grips are very "STABLE". I have an A2 upper, and I'm not sure I want to go thru the hassle of changing the upper out to a flat top. So, it's either use a "Z" type mount, or, for about the same amount of money, get the fore grips. Thanks Gene |
Gene, It is okay to mount EOTech on a rail handguard, but if there is any bump the rail might shift by a slight margin and your shot will be off at longer distance. It is better to mount the sight on a free float rail handguard because the FF rail is mounted directly to the receiver barrel nut vs. the standard rail handguard that are only held in position by the delta ring and the front handguard cap. there is no major difference out to 100 yards but you might experince some POI shift at longer distance. |
| I realize that the LaRue mount with the AA models and the Surefire M500 handguards will not work w/o sanding down a little of the top of the handguards, but will the bottom front of the N models on a LaRue mount touch Surefire handguards or not? It would seem that the LaRue mount would put the N model EOtechs over the delta ring all the way and be very close to the Surefire M4 style handguards. Anybody ever tried this combination? |
N or AA, if you don't want your EOTech sitting pretty far back on the flat topwith the M500, you pretty much need the LaRue mount, in my experience. You will likely have to give the handguards a pretty decent whack with a rubber mallet to get them to seat fully, and everything locks up very tight, with contact between the EOTech and SF light handguards. |

There has been emntion of canting on EOTech, it is the way the optic is mounted, you should release and remount on the receiver . Also check against your rear sight since the front sight can be canted when you intstall them. there has been instances that bushmaster has ome FSB installed incorrectly. |

Chen, I have removed and remounted the Eotech about a half a dozen times already with the same result. Yesterday, I took the shroud off and removed the securing mechanism off and then mounted the sight once again and low and behold, it is still canted to the side - the left side, from the rear is lower than the right side. Looking further into the mount, I noticed that there is an in balance from that of the left to that of the right of the Eotech rail. Today I plan to file down a bit on left rail, when looking from the rear of the unit, to compensate for the cant. As for the hard sights, I did double check and there is no cant. In fact, the front sight post does align properly with the rear sight and that of the rail on both the hand guard and the upper receiver. The Eotech is not touching the rear sight. I have placed the Eotech on both the hand guard and the upper reciever and both shows a cant. My conclusion, it is either the Eotech or that the rail on the upper receiver was manufactured incorrectly which I do not believe to be the case. Chen, would you mine if I call you since you have listed your number on the forum? Darren... Semper fi |

Epeescott, not a problem with explaining what I did. I took a Nicholson® Taper File to the inside rail. The rail that I filed down is the one where the clamp attaches itself to the upper receiver. You will be required to take off the protective shroud. Take your battery case off too. When I filed I did two things. 1st, I filed into the point of the V where it clamps to the upper receiver. 2nd, I filed down the bottom portion of the rail that seats itself under the RAS mount on the upper receiver. I would check by mounting it and then eye balling it. I used two reference points. The first is the rear iron sight - which is my backup sight in which I found a vertical plane to use as a refernce that I knew was true as true at it could be. Then I would use that reference to align it with the dim down button. Once I felt that was fine then I would mount the battery case back and see if it was aligned with the front sight post. When I felt it was right, I put back the shroud, screwed back the locking screw and mounted it. I once again followed the process above. Once I was sure it was set then I would do this last check. I would look through the Eotech against a mirror to see if I can still detect a cant. If I do, back to square one. Filed it down a few more times and repeated the process but by that time it was squared away. I hope that helps. There is not much to show by showing a photo. As I wrote before, I just filed down the side that clamps to the RAS. Either Aimpoint or EOTech will be fine for your purpose. PRI makes the most solid mout for the EOTech or Aimpint. my second choice is the BC CAM. for Aimpoint you have another excellent choice, ARMS makes a great forward mount(#39) that will only work with Aimpoint to Co-witness. it will work with EOTech but you just can't co-witness the sight to iron. Aimpoint also have its own mouint that wrok with their claw mount. Cav Arms make a good alternative forward at a low price to fit the bill for the budget shooter. |

Hello! I've recently purchased an EOTech 550AA, and have a few questions: 1). The single mounting scew to the Picattany rail on my flat-top m4 seems insufficient. I've read literature that seems to disagree with the installation instructions that came with the 550. Does the factory sight have other mounting options (other than purchasing a base or extension) to more securely hold this sight? 2). I'm new to using a holographic sighting system...when the holographic regicle is projected onto the lens, and the target is "overlayed" with the reticle, has a true and accurate sight picture been obtained? Is co-witnessing the best use? Thanks!! |

SMGLee or Any Forum Members: I was looking at the BUIS sights on SMGLee's web page: (http://cltactical.com/Pictures/Pictures.htm) Looked like a nice set-up! What make is the RES (and who has a good price to purchase from) is this? Looks like a great way to mount my EOTech 552 more forward while maintaining center of mass. Also, what type light was attached to the forward rail of your m4...Thanks in advance, scuba_ed |

You can buy a new Flatop upper and swap out with your A2 for about 125.00. You can buy a Precision Reflex hi-ride forward carry handle mount for 160.00 You can buy a BC-CAM forward carry handle mount for 130.00 You can buy a LaRue FF rail handguard for 280.00. you can see the forward mount pics on the first page of this post. I would suggest getting the flatop as your formost mounting option. It is the best possible way to go. The price quoted for the flat top receiver is for an LMT upint, but you can find cheaper laternative from other vender such as Rock river, Fulton Armory, JT dist. or Oly Arms. |
| I just got a 512, my question (since I never looked through one of these before) is how crisp should the dot and reticle appear? Mine is very "grainy" for lack of a better term. You seem to see many individual dots. The only other laser generated reticle I've seen was in an M1 Abrams and this is no where near that quality. Is this concern enough to return it? Thanks... |
<--- Former 19K with a 512 here. ![]() The EoTech takes some getting used to at first, but once you get it, there is nothing on EARTH as good IMHO. The "dot effect" is due to how the reticle is generated. First, do not focus your eyes on the reticle itself. If you do, it looks just like you describe. Focus your eyes THROUGH the glass at a target a few yards away. This may be hard at first, but persevere. I don't even notice the dots anymore unless I really look for them. I have been using the EoTech for over a year now. Second, turn the reticle down until you can see it comfortably, no more. You will have to adjust your reticle depending on ambient light. The dot effect is exacerbated by having the reticle up too high. I prefer mine down one level from the default setting when I am indoors for instance, but everybody is different. You will also find out that having the reticle adjusted to what you need and no more will make the aiming dot in the center appear smaller. This will be a BIG bonus for fine accuracy work at range. Don't worry, you chose a good sight. Edited for spelling. |
| Thanks for the info. The reticle just looks different compared to LED types. It hasn't been a problem using the sight. It's very fast to me, if I bring the rifle to the same spot on the shoulder each time. Much like shotgunning with an optic sight IMO. Haven't shot it yet unfortunately. Actually, after I thought about it, the reticle in the Abrams of 20 years ago was really an LED generated by the LRF. The laser beam was supposed to be aligned to the center "hole" of the reticle. I probably debated which sight to buy for over a year. I was just about sold on the Trijicon Reflex until I read some comments in forums here. I like the tritium idea, kind of like in the MRS of the Abrams (again) and no batteries. Don't know exactly what happened to the tripower, it looked bulky though. The ACOG's are nice(except the price), but still not what I was looking for. I was about to go for an Aimpoint, but now I'm glad I didn't. I like the fact that the window can be partially obstructed but the reticle will still be visible. I have the "clown shoe" model. I'm not so "tactical" that I can't use AA batteries, which last longer anyway. It is pretty interesting that they make a model compatible with NV though. The brightness range is very good to my eyes, just pointing on various objects outside, I seem to like it a couple of steps higher than where it turns on, on a bright day. I think I'd probably buy another one if I was doing it over again... |
|
Pretty cool pic Chen! I understand it's a prototype but I do hope they do something with the "Boxy" shape because it looks like a BUIS won't fit under it...
Interesting info on the new reticle. I remember being told this by someone from EOTech but when I mentioned it here it seems that no one thought it would happen. Hopefully the extra dots don't clutter up the reticle. Either way I can't wait to see it! It's also interesting to see LaRue's mount will go directly on the upper. I guess us guys without the LaRue QD mount will still be in business. |
Cool pic! It would be cool if there was a button similar to the NVG button to turn the extra dots on or off as needed. |
|
the picture was taken without the magnifier the laser projection uses a pattern build into the laser. it would be hard to build a switch to turn off the extra dots because you will hav e end up with two laser and to sync them would be a tuff task. for CQB, you will just use the 65MOa so the dots are not in play anyway. Four dots, the center dot at 100m and bottom at 400m |
WTF? If you're talking to me you're the one that needs to put down the crack pipe. The 65MOA ring = 65 inches at 100 yards, really you promise??? Am I glad you're here to explain this shit to all of us. ![]() It's obvious you don't what the hell you're talking about. The extra dot's are not for eliminating cant as SMGLee already mentioned what ranges they're used for. I've known about this new reticle for some time but it's only now just coming out with the magnifier. SMGLee, Gotcha on the laser projection. I guess this means that this reticle needs to be zeroed at 100 yards. So that means those of use who prefer to use IBZ would better off using the standard A65 reticle with the magnifier. |
|
Jimbo, The reticle is still being worked out by the engineer. EOTech has something else cooking at the request of the military. this military project takes the drive seat at EOTech for the time being. I had the same question on the reticle, hopefully i will get a better answer soon. |
LOL!!! Come back when you're done smoking...![]() |
|
Post as many question as possible, i will compile it right before going to the range after I return from a assignment. I will test tyhe optic and find the answer for all you guys. As far as KW's question, The field of view is similiar to ACOG TA01, it allows for the EOTech reticle to work like a TA31 with the magnifier. I took it on a scouting mission in the mountains last night, the moon was out but with thin cloud cover. the optic was bright and clear and i was able to ID passing cars and people moving on their balcony. |
