A number of changes were made to make the LMG handle higher firing schedules, reduced ROF etc.

The gas tube is significantly larger in diameter, and is a straight tube - no dog leg shape. Both the increase in size and the straight tube attribute to a greater lifetime. The barrel is also pretty damn heavy, I don't recall the exact measurement having handled a few, but think something along the lines of an HBAR or larger, all the way to the gas block shoulder.

It also utilized a hydraulic buffer to reduce the ROF. Combined with the reduced ROF/Weight, you can see in a number of videos how utterly controllable it is.

It also does not operated in the same way as your typical AR15/M16. It fires from an open bolt, and uses a different trigger mechanism whereby the hammer also acts as the sear.

Thanks, but I mean in comparison with the sustained fire capabilities of the Colt IAR. I should've clarified.

The LMG was additionally available in closed-bolt configuration. All of the Danish LSV M/04 contract were delivered as closed-bolt weapons.

Lerch641,

Thanks for the info and photos, very helpful!  I've had a hell of a time getting my engraver to make the receiver markings correct. Close, but just not perfect. Anway, any idea on a source for the scope base as shown in the last photo you posted? I was able to get the A.R.M.S. base as shown on Kevin's rifle, but I would also like to find the other one.

I've never even seen one for sale, much less good details on them. They were unique to Diemaco so lasers and other accessories could be mounted.

These are all from KevinB aswell, same rifle. ARMS #35 base. For clarity, he does like to personalize, so whatever scopes you see are probably his own.

Here's a standard C7CT for reference if you're doing up stamps.

Sounds familiar...what I had when I first joined:

A2 stock, no triad rail, no Cadex folding grip, no ambi selector, no Norgon ambi mag release, no green furniture.

My rifle during BMQ:

BCR, where I did my BMQ, didn't have the green condoms on the Elcans at this point, so maybe they were in a transitional period getting the C79s refurbished into C79A2s.  They may or may not have had the Cadex folding grips in supply at the time, our unit apparently has a crate of these, but has decided not to install them.

What I use now:

Triad rail removed for a Service Rifle match.

My clone builds of the work rifle.

For my A2, I have also since taken out the Magpul trigger guard and replaced it with the factory one.  The only thing that's really missing on it now is the correct sling plate, which in my opinion sucks balls, but I'll still get one for clone purposes.

The black one's been flat-topped and I think that decision was influenced by the OP at one point in time.  The triad tail does not belong there, and I still need to find a C79 with a black cover.  Also, the engraving is wrong.  The script should be wider across the mag well, and it should say C7 only, not C7A2 (the A2 should be offset anyway, not centered with C7).

(Seriously, why on Earth would BCM not make their C8 SFW barrels cold hammer forged?!)

Look up Braceman who does the AR lower engravings, he can turn you a new Simon Sleeve to fit that barrel.  Otherwise the BCM SFW barrel is only useful as a Mk18 donor.

Thanks! I actually managed to sell my upper for a decent price. I believe he was going to trim the barrel for a clone project, so I kept the Simon Sleeve for a different barrel. I plan on using a cold hammer forged barrel instead of the button-cut barrel offered by BCM. I have a guy that has the correct specs to trim the barrel for the sleeve.

C8 and C8A1 - both had the same pencil barrel.
C8A2 - close to the American govt profile, so the M203 will mount.
C8FTHB - stepping stone, black furniture, but heavy barrel and Simon sleeve
C8FTHBA3 - another stepping stone, with green furniture
C8A3 - standard issue, with same specs of C8FTHBA3

And the CQB uses a proprietary FSB that negates the need for a Triad type rail.

The CQB and others like the C8CT are primarily seen in LEO use, not Mil.

Ahh, thanks Lerch! So I was pretty much on the money except the C8FTHB. I was wrong about it not having a Simon Sleeve...

I got a couple of questions Lerch.

I managed to acquire a set of green C7 furniture (take off from SA20 rifle) and a Cadex rail. I was wondering how the Cadex rail was mounted to the rear of the handguard. Did the armorers drill holes in the heat shield for the rail wingnuts, or did they simply remove it? I don't think I'm going do either to a hard to find set here in the States, so I'll probably end up getting a set of cheap aftermarket green A2 handguards and butcher the bottom handguard heat shield for mounting a Cadex grip.

Also, did the original C7 and C8 rifles use a black anodizing? It seems some C7A2s that reuse older C7 lowers have a mismatched color compared to the upper. Also, is the Diemaco/Colt Canada grey anodizing used on older military rifles different than the grey anodizing done on civilian Colt Canada SA20 rifles and SA15.7 carbines? With some pictures, the new civilian Colt Canada rifles seem to have a lighter grey color to me...

Like BandF said, remove heatshield and install. We just push the shield back in over the nuts, and bend it

Original C7/C8 as far as I've seen them had a black duracoat kind of finish. I've never looked hard into what it is but you can see the original upper I have in the C8 thread I linked in the first post, and the C7A2 thread.

All the reused lowers I've had were mismatched to the uppers as they'd always been finished in different decades (uppers were done in the 90's with A1's, lowers were in the white and done in the 00's for A2's).

I can check this week the difference between Colt Canada finish and my Diemaco at work, but it won't be fair as the Diemaco has years of use versus the new CC lower.

Just bought a CC parts rifle and I couldn’t be happier!

Barrel is from an SAS IUR rifle (10.5”).

How do I know if it’s a genuine CC barrel? Any markings to look for?

What markings should I look for on the upper?

BCG is marked with a “CC”. Does that mean it’s a Colt Canada?

Not asking because I don’t trust the seller. Just asking for my own knowledge on CC rifles/parts

Also, the lower has an odd rubber piece in it. Is this an accuwedge? Is it removable and should I even remove it?

Your 10" barrel will have a batch number right behind the shoulder at the muzzle. Furthermore, if it is a barrel from the SAS IUR, there will be flats on the bottom of the barrel on the gas block journal (opposite the gas port) for the gas block set screws. Does your barrel also have the gas block and straight gas tube?

The bolt carrier will be marked CC, like you saw. Yes it means Colt Canada. That is Colt Canada's NATO mark (formerly the Diemaco triangular D)

The rubber piece at the rear of the pocket is indeed an accuwedge - it can be pulled out if you don't like it.

Did you purchase a complete Colt Canada lower receiver?

Your upper receiver, if a newer production Colt Canada will be marked 2C805, which is Colt Canada's CAGE code.

(Why I didn't think of that...)

Thanks. I just pulled the handguards out of my Diemaco stash and inspected it and I didn't realize there was a lot of clearance between the handguard and the heat shield for the Cadex rail wing nuts. That's on me.

Anyway... For those who want a tactical latch like the C7A2 and C8A3 rifles in the States, it would be hard pressed to acquire one since retailers are bounded by a market contract agreement for retailers to not sell anything made by Colt, Diemaco, and Colt Canada to customers in the US. There are ways where you could send them over the border, but even then, a Canadian can vouch that they consistently cost more than $100CAD. So in US Dollars, it will still be expensive within the Geissele Super Charging Handle price range for what it is.

Luckily, True North Arms offers a good alternative. The machining is not perfectly precise compared to the Colt Canada counterpart along with the coating, but it sure beats paying real $$$. Plus, True North Arms ships to the US, so that is a real bonus for cloners. I find that this is not a great system and I would not use it on any of my "fighting/training rifles," but they are perfect if you are attempting to clone a rifle in the US, or if you're short on change up north. I hear some Canadian soldiers complain on how they snag on their rigs and how the pin (mostly the solid ones) snap under constant hard use. Regardless, True North Arms gets two thumbs up from me!

Note: Be sure to file the sharp edges and burrs around the latch where it engages the upper receiver or you will get massive finish wear on the receiver! And do it before you install it into the handle, or filing it with the latch installed can be a real pain (from personal experience).

Here are some pics. I installed one on my Colt USA charging handle body.

BarrelandForge basically covered it. Elucidate also mentioned that O'Dell Engineering's marketing isn't the most accurate when it comes to distributing SAS uppers from the factory to the retailer, so most likely it is just 10" in length and not 10.5" barrel length. Colt Canada makes all models tailor based on the customer's military requirements, and are not released in "generations" as O'Dell would have you believe.

What I find funny is that the technical term for the accuwedges from the Colt Canada factory is the Spring, Elastmeric, Receiver. Cloners can choose to get a black accuwedge if they choose, which is not a vital part to have for a clone Diemaco rifle. I see red ones commonly along with Colt parts kits and black ones available elsewhere. I don't know if I would use one because the rear take-down pin assembly/disassembly is a real pain (at least for the Colt ones).

Although, Diemaco and Colt Canada accuwedges are actually different in shape. The red one on the left came from a Colt parts kit while the middle and right are Diemaco and Colt Canada, respectively. Orange is an early Diemaco used in C7s and C8s, while the black is a Colt Canada accuwedge for modern platforms.

...And just for amusement, here is a pile of accuwedges...

Orange is an early Diemaco used in C7s and C8s, while the black is a Colt Canada accuwedge for modern platforms.

...And just for amusement, here is a pile of accuwedges...

Thanks, you're just reminding me that I've still got a bag of them in my office to bring home. I give the things out like candy.

Now do these accuwedge type things work? I've never bought one or used one, because I never really gave a crap about the slop between the receivers. I've heard some accounts of them causing weird wear between the uppers.

Personally, I don't use them. It makes it too hard for disassembly and receiver slop doesn't decrease accuracy, nor does it bother me. I just have Colt Canada ones for my clone builds as a collection. Diemaco/Colt Canada issues them to keep the receivers tight after long use, especially when the Canadian government refurbishes old receivers for their current service rifles instead of buying new rifles. Upgrading old rifles easily makes good financial sense from a logistical military perspective.

C8 CQB in the works:

Diemaco 11.6 upper with Ops Inc collar, CC ambi lower
Some progress. Still need a threaded vortex, car style lock ring, some other small parts. I am trying out a geissele maritime bolt catch for the hell of it, so it might change too.

Who makes the Simon Sleeve and how much did it cost? I have a BCM version but I am having a lot of trouble selling my BCM SFW upper without the Simon Sleeve. I rather use the BCM version, but I want to make a little money back on the complete upper and use an actual cold hammer forged barrel.

(Seriously, why on Earth would BCM not make their C8 SFW barrels cold hammer forged?!)

I had "John Thomas" do all the barrel work to include the sleeve, based on drawings I found here on ARFCOM.

In retrospect, I should have done the C8 version with the lightweight .725 barrel.

Smith Vortex G6A2  . Need to get the one threaded for the ops inc can though (G6A2-SBV ). The barrel also has the suppressor collar on it.

Ah, it looks like that's all a one piece reflex can mount.

Oh! I get it. It's because the collar goes all the way up to the base of the flash hider. That's cool.
