I'm pretty sure I responded in the old review thread with a positive.  I would now like to reverse my position.  Take the positive away and add a negative for this ammo.

Me and a friend shot 300rds thru 2 different rifles this past Saturday.  His was a Colt Match HBAR 20", mine was a Stag/CMMG 14.5 M4orgery.  I don't know the exact #'s, but both of us fought thru this ammo just to get rid of it.

From memory, out of the 300rds of Olympic SS109 we had in both rifles total:

About 30 blew primers out
About 50 short stroked due to light powder charges
About 10 failures to extract due to the case jammed in the chamber due to out of spec brass, most of these had to be pounded out with a cleaning rod
About 10 failures to feed due to the OAL being too long

After all of that I had to shoot XM193 thru my rifle just to ease my mind.  It went 100%.

Range report on Olympic 55 gr FMJ  M193 type ammo. I bought some and chrono'd 3 ten rd strings out of  a RR 16" chrome lined, using a Beta Chrony aprox 12' from the muzzle. I got the stats from each of the 3 10 round strings then averaged that for the following results...HI -  3124fps, LO-2946fps, AV-3028fps, ES-177fps, SD-59fps.   As you can see, not the most consistent , but I had no problems with feeding or extraction/ejection. Accuracy was fair considering groups were shot at 80 yds in a 10-15 MPH wind. with the whole group being 4.25" and the tightest 22 shots grouping into 3". Thats 3.75-5 MOA. I would not be afraid to use it in a cqb class as far as reliability goes but for anyting beyond CQB distances the accuracy factor sucks....Just my .02 cents.

I bought a thousand rounds and out of the first 100 had 20+ ammo related problems. I had the same experiance with the 9MM.

I is pure CRAP ammo.

Shot a couple mags of  both normal 55gr and penetrator 62gr of this greek junk in several of my and my friends ARs.  Got the ammo free from a friend with a match-chambered AR.  Should have known that it would be a problem.  Granted this was a year or 2 back.  Red/white striped boxes.
probably shot ~200 rounds?

Accuracy was fine with all rounds.  Maybe a bit loose for groupings at 200 and 300 yds for the 62gr.

However  1 or 2 rounds would jam in various ARs (never the same) with new springs and anti-tilt followers.

A touch dirty but not bad.

In my favorite toy CMP Rock River with the stainless HBar, this stuff just would not work worth a damn.  Guess that Wylde chamber is just too tight for this junk.

An old worn out 'nam era Colt a friend had was the only thing that would feed this stuff reliably.

Very out of spec brass when we micro-metered some later.  And all over the place consistacy-wise.

I'll skip it in the future.

I tried the older Wolf laquer coated ammo... had problems with it. The rounds would not seat fully. One out of every 10 or so. Someone bought me Wolf Poly coated for Christmas last year. Worked well, but still was leary of it.

I bought Olympic (Greek) ammo. It worked well, even though everyone told me it's crap.

Talking to a friend, it comes down to, "Once you find a round that works well in your weapon, stick with it."

I was firing it in my Eagle Arms A3 with SS bull barrel. That's gone now... I wonder which ammo will work well in my Armalite M4C.

This Olympic SS109 ammo is about a milimeter too long and hangs up in my new Bushmaster 16".  I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I was getting double feeds, stovepipes, and ejection problems.   The Bushmaster Tech rep mentioned this site and said this ammo is a known problem.  As soon as I quit mixing the Olympic SS109 in with the rest of my ammo, the jamming problems disappeared.

Ran through a box of fifty rounds and had constant problems. It jams up in my new Bushmaster . I was getting stovepipes, double feeds and ejection problems. I even had the dealer look at the gun. We ran through a box of Win Q3131 with out any trouble. He said that he's heard some guns don't like the Oly. I think it's crap.

MY STORY:

OLYMPIC FMJ M 193
Head stamped 'O1'

Jamming in my Bushmaster Dissipator.
This was AFTER I thoroughly cleaned the gun. ( a rare thing for me, BTW )
Tried different magazines.
FTE.  FTF.  DBL. FEED.
FUCT.

Now, here's the really weird part:
This ammunition jammed in my Remington XP-100R!
A bolt-action; blind magazine; Long Range Pistol in .223
The ammo would not feed the first round out of the magazine.
It crammed and jammed the second round into the first because the first would not eject.
OUT OF A BOLT-ACTION...
So, now I'm stuck with about 800 rounds of GREEK SHIT ammo.

I just bought 1,000 rds. of Lake City XM855PD Green Tip 62-gr. for $190.00
I'm thinkin' I got a pretty good deal on much better ammunition.

I bought a case of 500 rounds of the M193 variant at a gunshow.  Ran 300+ rounds through pistol (Bushmaster 14.5" HBAR upper), and remaining rounds through rifle (Bushmaster 20" HBAR upper).

There were no FTFd, FTFr, FTE problems.

Ammunution was a but dirtier that federal XM193 (preferred fodder).

As far as accuaracy goes, I generally shoot at 8" x 6" vertical ovals at 25yards.  This is the same size as an average human head. and half the size of center of mass.  They all hit that, so I am happy.

I had some problems with my WASR-3 and a known bad lot of WCC 99.  So I wanted to test the gun with other ammo. I got some new Federal XM193 and wanted something else to try so I got 25 or 50 of the Olympic.  It ran fine with no problems.

Sorry I just noticed that this is the AR ammo forum and I used it in an AK.  I wasn't about to run this crap in my good gun.

the SS109 was the only ammo that would effectively cycle my old Mini-14.
all the 55gr. even XM193 would cause stovepipes and FTF's - and this was mostly attributed to the crappy post-ban mags that were the only ones available at the time
that rifle almost ended up at the bottom of the strip mine as a target cause i was so annoyed with it.
the Greek stuff was great for downrange plinking - i wish i had more of it at the time. .

Ordered up 500 rounds of ss109 and shot it up in my colt match target.  Every round went boom and shot fine.  Only reason that I never bough more is becaue of lack of availiblity.  I was trying to get away from the dreaded wolf ammo due to all the horror stories despite the fact that I have shot well over 5k of it myself.  Reloaded a number of the olympic cases, all seemed to work fine.  The primer crimp was kind of a pain to deal with though.  Ran about 250 rounds of the 55 gr through my colt sp1 again with no problems at all.  Maybe I got lucky.  Did have a case split on some olympic 9mm after shooting about 700 rounds through various pistols.  I had always assumed this was good stuff and I never realized that everyone was having problems with it.  turk

I am getting in on this because of my problems with Olympic 9mm.  Lousy ammunition with failures to fire in the several firearms I dared try it in and some oddly seated primers that appeared uneven when I looked across a box full of rounds.  I finally threw most of it away.  This was my worst experience with ammunition of any kind, handloaded or factory, and I will not buy this brand again under any circumstances.

Gauged 200 rounds in my Frankford Arsenal gage.  51 rounds out of 200 stuck out of the end of the gage, presumably indicating oversize diameter and/or excessive case length.

As a comparsion, I pulled out 30 rds of Federal XM193 to compare and found all of them in spec.

Edited to add on 10/10/2006:

Gauged (gaged?) the balance of the 1000 rds I had bought.  254 rounds out of 1000 failed the gage test.  A few cases had dents.  One had a serious crack near the base of the case.  It was caused by some sort of mechanical device, as a tool mark was around the crack.

Well, I found about 120rds of some old Olympic ammo I had. I bought a case of olympic when I 1st bought my AR a about 4-5 years ago (before I knew any better.)

I went shooting today and decided just to use the rest of it up to get rid of it all. Before, when I 1st bought the case I really only had a few problems with it (compared to everything I was reading about it.) Today was a different story! Had TONS of FTE / FTF. After shooting, my safety was stuck and wouldn't go on safe. Got home and tore the rifle down for a GOOD cleaning. Found TONS of primers & pieces of brass in my lower and in my gas block. Found a chunk of brass lodged in my safety. Finally got that out and 2 hrs later I had a clean gun again.

I am VERY glad that was the last of that ammo I had.

On a good note, I did take about 20 rds of Guad. ammo that I got. These were the tarnshed ones I had out of my case I bought. The 20 shot REAL nice! Can't wait to shoot more of it.

Just incase you haven't heard.... STAY AWAY FROM OLYMPIC AMMO!!!!!!!

Just for testing I bought a 50box of 5.56 olympic SS109 box (green tip) few days ago.
Went to the range ,and I tested it in my Bushmaster M17s Bullpup. Out of 6 rounds I ran through, 5 had FTE, and the last one jammed that I had to actually fieldstrip the gun.

I know my M17s is very picky with ammo and magazines, but then I put cheapo WOLF ammo through the same mag, and went through 30 rapid fire shots without one problem.

Gave a few to my budd to use in his RR Ar15, and after one shot, the second one jammed soo badly, he couldn't remove it. He took it hoem and had to strip the gun to get it out..

I'll never fire this junk in anything ever again.

This is the standard plinking ammo I use for my AR's, I have shot over 2k of this ammo through my Bushmaster 16" and 20" barrels. After reading the horror stories I started checking the rounds through a Dillion case gage, I have pulled 5 -10 rounds total out of 2k for irregularities - much better percentage wise than some of the Q3131 I have shot.

I have a difficult time believing some of these posts and quite honestly call BS on alot of them, several of them from folks who take pride in not cleaning their weapons.

I'll add to this. Sorting thru my ammo dump I found several [4] boxes of 62 5.56 and 6 boxes of 9mm. After the HORRIBLE problems I had with the800 round tin of this crap, I was leery but figured WTH. Surprisingly all the 5.56 ran fine in a 6920 and the 9mm ran fine thru a 6450. Accuracy was pretty crappy thru the 6450, I thought the scope was loose but it was just the ammo.

I'll never buy any more, and all the brass got tossed into the brass scrap can, but the boxed stuff did work better then the tinned stuff for me.

I just bought my RRA Entry Tactical and had only shot 90 rds. through it when I tried this garbage. The ss109 jammed on the second round through the gun.

The primers blew out of 8 out of the 25 rds. I fought through. The 4th rd blew out the primer and it ended up in the end of the gas tube. This got smashed into the bolt gas tube and turned my Rifle into a single shot! I figured out what was happening and picked it out. All I can say is I will never buy anything from them again.

After all the trouble, it functioned fine with Adcom and Radway ss109.

I just fired 20 rds. through my mini 14 and it functioned fine, but I will still never buy any more!

I bought 50 rounds of it to feed my mini 14, back before I knew any better

It was inaccurate smelled like ammonia and caused several failures to feed in a otherwise reliable weapon. The worst malfunction required the application of a rubber mallet to the charging handle to clear.

After going through that I gave the rest of the box to the range master.

seeing how this is sometimes family site, I would rather pitch rocks at 50 yards and check my M.O.A. with that than to ever buy anything relating to greek and gun again. Including taking my chances with adcom'98, with them you can visually see problem before loading. The 62 grain ss109 Olympic(lucky the greek gods haven't shoved a bolt of lightning in them) is some pretty sorry stuff, underpowered and overpowered from the same can. The 55 grain is pretty reliable.

I have shot about 200 rds of the SS109 with Zero problems whatsoever in my 11.5" 1/9 Bushy.

and I just bought 1000 more rounds of the SS109. Will post a bitter angry update update if anything should go wrong with this batch.

Specific Rifle issues: The only problems I ever had with this rifle were with 50gr Federal JHP's when it was still being broken in. Eats Radway, Guat, Wolf (55 & 62 gr but likes the 62 gr alot better) and Remington like a champ.

I've found this 55-gr and 62-gr Greek .223 ammo to be just the worst stuff I've ever used. Nothing but problems (short stroking, jams, FTE, FTF, etc.) from three different ARs and thank the Lord I don't have any more. This Olympic junk actually made the old Wolf lacquer ammo seem like  first class stuff. The 9MM 124-gr ammo I had was so underpowered you could actually see these slow-footed rounds head downrange under certain lighting conditions like it was a tracer. This ammo should be outlawed by the FTC.

I've been on both sides of the isle on this ammo, I've decided for my rifles I'll shoot it for fun / non-serious training.  It appears (though the problems with it are not consistent) to run better in my shorter barreled ARs than the 20" ARs.  I have two different 20" ARs, a 16" AR, a 11.5" AR, a Kel-tec SU-16C and a H&K 93.  The non-AR 5.56s have had zero issues with the Olympic 55 / 62 gr ammo.  The 20" ARs (both Bushmasters) have short stroked with the 55 gr Olympic ammo, but only when run dry.  I've had success CLPing the bolt and they will run good again on the Olympic ammo.  The 16" and 11.5" ARs (both Bushmaster also) will run dry or wet just fine with the Olympic ammo.  POI with the 55 gr Olympic is the same versus Guat surplus at 100m in all my ARs.  I've shot a ton of 55 gr Olympic through the H&K 93 and it's never had even the slightest issue.
