Alrighty, So last year, I built up a SBR'd .300 BO upper on a Lantac Raven straight pull upper. Not semi. I was fun and all, but I quickly realized it didn't do anything better than my SBR'd Howa Mini, so I sold the upper. Now, I'm left with an SBR'd JL Billet lower. I figure, I'd like a semi-auto .300 upper to run with my DD Enticer-L Ti. That being said, in my shithole state if it's a semi-auto, even an SBR must be at least 29" OAL. Sooooo, recs on barrels? Gas Blocks? I don't wanna go too Gucci ($$$), but something a little "nicer" would be cool. |

When I lived in MD I had an Engage E4 billet upper/lower set. 10.5" rainier supermatch got me to the minimum with a Sylvan arms folding stock adapter and magpul CTR. I swapped the barrel out after a few years for a wilson combat 11.3", KAC FFRAS and it's now a mini-recce. |

What are your expectations from a short barrel Blackout? Or put another way, what do you need the gun to do? I have a 9” Blackout SBR with a Noveske tube. It’s great for plinking. I rarely hunt, and I don’t consider the gun a personal defense piece. So this gun is effectively a high-dollar plinker. A couple years ago I decided to build a lightweight 300 Blackout AR pistol with a Law Tactical folding stock to use as a travel gun. I purposely stuck with inexpensive components to keep the price low to reduce my outlay if the gun was stolen. Turns out the AR pistol is also a decent plinker, so I now have other plans for the SBR lower and will sell the 300 Blackout Noveske barrel. The point here is that you should consider your use case for a 300 Blackout upper and pursue something that satisfies that use case. Are you focused on subs or supers? Do you want MOA accuracy? If that’s the case, I’d suggest looking at other cartridges. Whatever you decide, please report here with your decision. I appreciate hearing what folks like you, OP, decide what to build or how you spend your money. |
