I have been looking at other pictures on this site and havent seen another "Y" stamp on a reciever. Can someone fill me in on whet it means. Thanks

The Y stamp is a reinforcement in the location of the auto sear axis pin hole, just like the two other reinforcement areas for the hammer and trigger axis pins.
If your receiver had a hole drilled there, it would be a machinegun receiver. Since both semi and auto receivers from a real AK factory come out of the same set of stamping dies, your receiver has the Y stamp, but the axis pin hole wasn't drilled. |

| You don't state condition and history, but other Y stamped AKs like the Romanian SAR-1 have been selling in the $500 range. The Maadis are older, so might carry a small price premium. In the end, it's worth what you can get for it, of course. |

You have an Egyptian Maadi ARM that simply retains that indention. A great many ARM's have it so it's really not that rare. A bit uncommon, but certainly not rare. You don't see AK receiver manufacturers creating the indention on commercially made/sold receivers due to their worry about liability (sort of an "X marks the spot where to drill the hole" concern).
As mentioned, the Romanian SAR receivers have it on the left side of the receiver as well as the indention on the right side. |
