5.56 Romainian. I have a huge stack of Weiger mags thst I would like to put away and not use. What else works? i.e. Unity or Pufgun etc. Or What can ne made to work with just a bit of fitting? |

Not sure what the difference is between a Romak 3 and an SAR-3 or WASR-3, but the AC Unity work great for the SAR-3, which also is designed around the Weiger mag pattern. Bulgarian pattern also work fine in the SAR-3 series, you might need to swipe a file across the top back edge of the mag to clear the center support. But the ACU mags are cheap, so that is what i would get first. |

It’s when you try to cross-pollinate between different countries of manufacturing is where you run into problems with the 5.56 mags. |

Just don’t know what the difference is between the earlier model (Romak), later model (SAR), and last model (WASR). I kind of assume the Romak likely came in a dragunov style thumbhole stock originally, and the WASR maybe was similar to the 7.62 versions in that the mag well and bolt rails had to be opened up from single stack width to double stack? PAR- ugh. Let’s just not talk about those things! Also- one of my SAR-3’s came with a modified Chinese 84S mag. Even then those mags were expensive, a lot more than Weigers, but whomever modified it did a good job- works just fine. Another came with a Century modified bakelite AK-74 mag, it was not great, so I just put it back into use for 5.45 (did not swap the follower back) and it worked fine until I lost it one night while running under night vision at a mil-sim event. So apparently having the feed lips modified and follower swapped out was not enough to ensure good .223 feeding, but it kept working with 5.45 despite the mods. |
