When the builder gets this rifle together I still cann't make up my mind what finish to put on it.
Should I go with paint or just parkerize. I love the job USN-Riverine did on his. I think I would like to highlight the arabic script but I'm not sure about that either. What do you guys think? Thanks. |

I was originally going to stick to just sandblasting and spraying with can of brownells alumhyde semi gloss black (+extra backup spray nozzles). Rifles such as the 1987 parts kit kine came from had that somewhat glossy (maybe not full gloss) black on it. I decided to go all out and I will be degreasing, sandblasting, manganese parkerizing the rifle and spraying over that with the semi gloss black alumahyde.
I can tell by many parts such as the trunion and top cover, that the original finish was just paint strayed onto metal surface. Its got plenty of chips as many do. I want to prevent more of the chipping by giving the paint a little more something to bite into. Of course you don't have to parkerize and that step certainly adds to the cost. |
