Until our next new product comes out, I thought I would roll out a few of our U.S. made muzzle brakes. Both of these are relatively new items made by TAPCO. First up: AK-47 Slant Brake. Much to the likes of many AK Enthusiasts, this brake is identical to the original brakes. This slant brake screws onto your threaded muzzle and uses the locking pin to stay in position. Made in the Unites States and counts as 1 Sec 922 R compliance part. We did take the liberty to improve on the original design by adding an additional notch around the perimeter. This brake can be rotated a few extra degrees so that the slant accommodates left handed shooters. #AK0684 MSRP: $9.99  Next: AK-74 Style Brakes for the AK-47. This brake looks like the original AK-74 brakes, but is threaded and notched to fit AK-47's. Works with both 7.62 and .223 versions of the AK. | I would like to try the AK-74 Style Brakes for the AK-47. I have an Vector Arms underfolder with the slant brake and this would make for a good comparison between the two. I also have an older Romanian that is not threaded. Any thoughts on who could take care of that for me? Thanks |

| I missed out on the first five, but The Hawaii Rifle Association (local NRA affiliate) will be hosting the annual shooting sports fair as well as several open funshoots. If you are interested, I can have a dozen or so of our NRA certified instructors to provide input, as well as having several hundred people of the general public give impressions as well. |

Like the others, I received mine last week and went ahead and put it on my favorite AK, my Russian Saiga conversion, and it went on nice and straight, with no wobble like another US made 74 style brake I picked up at a gunshow does. Indexed perfectly when it reached the FSB with the notch lining up pefectly with my detent pin. Great fit and finish! Unfortunately like the other guys too, I haven't been able to get any range time yet. I will make a point of doing that very soon. Also have a big shoot coming up locally that I can pass it around at to get others' feedback. Thanks again Damiean |

Thank you for providing the brake - as others stated, installation was no problem and it fit right up. Function is good - recoil be negligible with the 5.45 anyway  one question - is the inside chamber of the brake chrome plated? wondering about long term use with corrosive primered ammo... thanks again fr the deal~

I've got mine installed on one. The rifle is having function issues w/ a mag inserted, but it looks good w/ that brake. I'll see if I can get a pic of it & post it. It might be a couple of days though. I'm working two jobs today, and have to leave for a MG shoot  at ~ 4AM  tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for the AK-74 Style brake. I finally got it on my rifle. I noticed more muzzle rise than my slant type brake, but the recoil is much more mild. The finish on the brake is really nice despite a couple of scratches from shipping/handling. It matches my rifle perfectly. |

Saw this thread and thought it'd be a good place for the FNG to ask a muzzle brake specific question.
Just took delivery of my new GunPlumber (ARS) AK-47 which has a threaded Tapco slant brake installed. The detent pin only allows it to be indexed with the slant at a 45 degree angle from straight up. The first post confirms to me that this is for right or left hand shooters. My question is, does the slant face toward or away from the shooter's strong hand? I apologize up front for any incorrect terminology used. Cuss at me if you must. Thanks for the info. |

I just got back from the range sighting in a new Polish underfolder in 7.62X39. I installed an AK74 style brake and really like the look and feel of this one. Also, the felt recoil is less than a slant brake, which is a good idea for an underfolder anyway. It seems like the 100 yard accuracy is better with the AK74 brake than the slant brake. Generally true? |

How does the Tapco 74type compare with some of the other brands, such as ak103.com and krebs 74-type?
There is a substantial price difference; Tapco's is much cheaper. Does that translate into performance? $22 vs. $60+ is quite a difference. Another vendor here, Primary sells their J-tac47 and FSC47 for $100 and $60 repectively. Has anyone done comparisons? My IOI Ak-47 came w/ the Tapco slant brake. I'm looking for something with more recoil compensation. Every forum raves about the Ak-74 brake, but there are disputes as to quality of the US-Made ones vs. imported and what gives the better recoil performance. Please don't take this post as a criticism, but as a consumer, I just want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. ;) Thanks for any answers Tapco can provide. |

My AK, an SA85 has had the barrel threads machined off and the indexing pin on the front sight removed. Anyone have an idea whether either of the Tapco brakes can be used on this rifle if the barrel is rethreaded? If not, any ideas? Hungarian made...

Got the break on. Not much noticeable recoil on this gun. Have not tried with slant break for comparison though, just could not wait. I was able to get it tight by depressing the stopper and turning it one more time after the first "click".

There is another new Slant Brake on the Maket. Its aGoGun S-12 Brake by E-TAC.Saw this posted on another forum. Looks way Cool. I think its now available from Carolina Shooters or GoGun themselves. Looks way cool.

| I was using an AK-74 type "BRAKE" on my 14" M16 for years and it worked like a dream. NO muzzle rise if you knew how to shoot. I recently went with a 10" for fun, but I still have a 74 on my Poly Legend NM in 7.62 and an early Clayco. My slant will stay in a parts bin somewhere. |
