It’s already got a lot of what I want in/on it… Texas Weapons System Top cover Soviet Arms handguard JMAC AR Buffer adapter (probably move this as AKs should fold). KNS Piston ALG Trigger AK12 stock and grip Recoil Buffer Extended Charging handle What appears to be an Lantac AK brake of some sort    Pics to come later Do I wish it were a factory folder with a standard stock? Yes. Am I positively geeked about it how it sits? YES As she sits now

Took it to the range today. Choked a little on Winchester 45 gr frangibles and a bit on 55 gr FMJ. Basically NO recoil though. Took a few clicks toward “closed” with the KNS and zero issues. I think the previous owner had it on the ragged edge of reliability to try to eliminate recoil. I’d prefer reliability over very low recoil. It’s a fun shooter, but I gotta get a better optic on it. It’s an old Sightmark and it’s terribad. An AEMS or similar would be perfect. Maybe a Primary Arms 3x prism. Also the Soviet Arms handguard doesn’t impress me. |

But I was planning on removing it by cutting the rivets and keeping the tang intact but separate from the gun. Is this the same as a lower tang? Very tempted to acquire a TWS or Attero and a factory topcover and sell the TWS topcover. Save a little weight and I’m not likely to slap an ACOG on it. Again, $$. |

Most AKs don't have a lower tang for the stock. The fixed stock ones commonly have the upper tang. The SAM5 has both. That means most of the different furniture and adapters wont work on the SAM5. When you want to run some aftermarket stuff, you whip out the angle grinder and lop it off. Here's mine.  ETA You may be out the original recoil assembly, too. Some of those aftermarket top covers use a proprietary recoil button. |
