Saiga-12 garage conversion...
Mako folding stock with cheek piece adjustment, K-var grips, MD Arms plug and flash hider, Arsenal trigger group, RS Aimpoint mount.Riveted AK-builder trigger group with re-inforcement plate. 
Although you can shoot the gun with the stock folded, the cheek piece must be all the way down and it is hard to cock the gun or operate the safety. I would have preferred to have the stock fold to the left, but the hinge mechanism makes it impossible to slide the scope mount on and off.

Is this do'able?
I want to move the front sight back as close to the long Saiga handguard as possible, chop the barrel, and weld a flash hider on it maintaing 16" OAL. Also who makes the farthest extending railed handguard for a Saiga 7.62? |

But to do it yourself, you're running into a grey area. If you're going to post it on the net, I'd find someone with a proper license to modify weapons to do it for you. |

Only thing I can think of would be the brief period between cutting the barrel down, and permanently attaching the flash guard. During that timeframe, you'd be in possession of an illegal SBS. I can't really think of anything else that would be problematic. |
OK, so I am new to the board so please be kind...
I have a SGL21-61 that I would like to have converted so I can put a multi-position stock on it. I have no tools, no experience, and no time to try to do the conversion myself, (although I think it would be really cool to learn how to do it.). 
Is there a trust-worthy person in the Houston-Sugar Land, TX area that could do the conversion for me? TIA, Jim |

Here is my .308 conversion. K-Var stock,Hogue grip,Weaver 3-9x38 scope,G2 trigger and 3 factory 8rnd mags converted to hold 2 more rounds each. It'll shoot MOA at 100yds with Sellior & Bellot 150gr.

well I ended up smoothing it out w/ JB weld like bondo and refinished it. Not baby-butt smooth, but came out ok.   it actually looked about 10 times better in person, the camera really magnified the flaws. That being said, I'd rather let someone who really works w/ metal do it next time. Hopefully people snag them all up and new ones start coming w/o the old importers mark scrubbed. |

| Hmm - I was going to settle for leaving the pins in there, but since yours looks so nice I may try it. What did you use to refinish it? Seem like I heard that JBWeld doesn't take to refinishing well, but no so with yours. Could this be done w/ plain jane sandpaper (Saiga noob here)? |

I have a Saiga in 7.62x39mm, and want to convert it so it looks cool and takes AK mags. Everything I have found one the interweb for converting a Saiga is for a Saiga 12. Where can I find the parts to make some magic happen??? |

To take AK mags you'll need a bullet guide and you may have to modify the mag catch a bit. |

My one and only, a Saiga 7.62x39 that I converted to an underfolder and rust-blued:
I was very trepidatious before I cut that first hole for the underfolder mechanism. After that first cut, it all went smoothly, though. 
I set up the underfolder mechanism so it could be installed for left-handed operation or right-handed, and also so I could switch back to a fixed-stock trunnion if I ever wanted to. I'm a lefty, so I have it set up for a lefty currently. Yes, the rear trunnion is attached by screws. Seems to be staying tight. 
The rust bluing It's shiny and lustrous and prob'ly over the top for an AK-type weapon, but so what? Who cares if it's guilding the lilly? I wanted an underfolder and prefer blued firearms over painted firearms. 
It sure is a nice, handy package to store when the stock is folded. The underfolder locks and unlocks smoothly and is as tight as a bank vault. 
Next, a custom peep sight to make it easier to hit with my 50-year-old eyes. |
| i honestly wish i wouldnt have. that way it would be left handed when i ran my sling in a single point its perfect for a lefty and and when i slung it over my back in a 2 point sling fashion i wouldnt have the charging handle dug into my back. right now your setup just like the new russian rifles. |

hey guys I'm new to AK47 and I appear to have bought a partially converted saiga. It came with the box, manual and two 30rd mags. It has a pistol grip, buttstock, fcg moved forward and bullet guide installed. I want the upper and lower hand guards installed since that has not been done. But my questions are...
1. Do I need to install a different gas tube? if so, why? 2. Will I need a lower hand guard retainer (seems so)? 3. Since the fcg was moved forward would it already have the fcg retainer plate? I noticed the trigger was by tapco if that helps any 4. I am confused about the barrel end. The barrel extends about 1 inch past the front sight. How do I make it "threaded" to put a flash hider on it and is there any downsides to using a flash hider? DO I just buy a whole new barrel? 5. Is akm buttstock good? Seems longer than usual. 6. Should I keep the ventilated Saiga forend?? You need to install a different gas tube if you wish to use standard AK handguards, the upper gas tube needs the handguard retainers to be able to use a normal AK upper handguard. 2. If you want to use standard AK handguard, yes. You are going to need a bolt on handguard retainer. 3. It will either have a retaining plate or shephards crook, both work perfectly fine. The benefit to the plate is that it is easier to install. 4. It may be threaded and capped. If that's the case then the cap is probably pinned on and needs to be dremeled off. If not, then you can just thread the muzzle, it's pretty simple, you can do it yourself with some tools. If you want 24mm threads like all the current Russian AKs have then you'll need to replace the front sight block. 5. Going by the picture, that is not a standard AK buttstock, the shape is wrong and it looks to be NATO length. You can easily replace it with any standard AK fixed stock. 6. Up to you, it's personal preference. |
My converted Saiga 7.62. I really enjoyed doing this conversion and specifically bought a Saiga for the adventure. I still want to Cerakote some of the parts in FDE and others in black. I am looking to pick up an Aimpoint T-1 as an optic but, with the Krebs rear sight it really makes the irons fast and accurate. I do need to bend the Krebs selector in a little to tighten it up, it's a little sloppy for my liking at the moment. Also, I want to pick up a riser for the stock. |
