   Hey guys, need some mag ID help. My eyes just don't see color as much as they used to. The first photo shows 3 Bulgie mags. The one in question is on the left. It is a very dark brown that is shiny. I have never seen this before. Anyone have any info? The second photo is a Russian Izzy with the weirdest pattern I have ever seen. It has a shiny sheen to it and looks like it was patched together in the manufacturing process. You can see that the bottom left of the magazine is normal, while the rest is shiny. Anyone know what I got here? Lastly, the third photo is of three bulgy mags. All look close to me, but again it is hard for me to distinguish the colors. Can anyone tell me the colors they see? thanks so much |

Did you reverse photos 1 & 3? Top: all three pretty close. Left is slightly redder; Middle looks a little darker and flatter finish; Right is a little browner. Middle: The variegation seen in the Bakelite is not unheard of, but that one is crazy. Bottom: The dark, shiny mag looks like plum (dark purple); Middle has a greenish hue; Right is reddish. |

The photo stinks, but it is shinny dark brown. I never saw one like that. |

If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears.  Serious AK-74 mag collectors definitely knew the difference. And could tell the difference between the different colors. I did buy the bulgy mags when the price was right, but like you? Thought they were all basically brown. I personally was focusing on all things bakelite. Ended up liquidating everything I had, thanks to the Arfcom curse. I still miss that collection.  ETA: Op! The redder "Brown" would be considered Firebrick, the lighter chocolate would be considered Saddle Tan, to collectors. Don't think there would be much price difference between them? But do your research on that. |
