Hi guys. It’s my first post in the AK side of the house. I’ve had a Romak 2 in 5.45 for a lot of years. With the lack of 5.45, I’ve got a couple of questions. 1. Can it be converted to 5.56? If so, who do you recommend to do it? 2. If a conversion can be done, can the magazines be converted also or do I need to buy new ones? TIA, Marty |

I just looked on ammoseek. 5.45 is about 60cents per round. 5.56 is about 40cents per round. Take the money you would spend to convert and stock up on 5.45ammo. Back in the day century sent 74 mags with sar3 rifles in 5.56. I never had luck with those. The german weigers were gtg. Personaly i would not do the conversion. You may spend a bunch of money to have a jamo matic to save 20cents a round. |
| ROMAK 2's are pretty uncommon and are getting even more so all the time. Especially unmolested examples. I most certainly would NOT convert it to 5.56/.223. If you want that caliber, get an AR or something else. Even though 5.45 is high compared to the salad days, it's still not that bad. Shoot it in 5.45 or sell it. But leave it alone! |
