I have been reading in a few places that supposedly AR15/M16 followers will work in 35 round Galil magazines in conjunction with new springs. In looking at the newer magpul types, it does not appear so. I got one of them into my test mag, and it didn't track all that well, and I had a hell of a time in getting it back out. Would the older black followers perhaps work? Has anyone tried this operation? |

I may do one as an experiment doing only the spring. The Wolff extra poser 30 rounders are supposed to be almost perfect for that. I am doing the research on the followers in case that becomes necessary as well. I am inclined to think that if I can fine a nonmetallic follower that works properly in those mags, they would run smoother along with the new springs. |

Quoted: I've done a couple of my Galil mags. I had to slightly trim the Magpul follower, but after that it functioned fine. I used Wolff extra power 30 round mag springs. They function just fine, only downside is the capacity goes from 35 to 34. Not a big deal. Is that due to the height of the legs on the Magpul follower? And any pics? Just curious. |

It almost certainly is the "legs" of the follower interfering with loading that last round. I just wasn't concerned enough to tear the mags back down to investigate, especially after knowing they were reliable as is. I'll take some pics later on. They're buried in a safe at the moment. |

No rush, and thank you. I am subscribed and will come back any time at your leisure. |

Attached File I don't have an unmolested follower to compare at the moment unfortunately, but this pic should show where I narrowed the follower up front to fit. |

Attached File While we're at it...my Galil clone done right by that magical Galil Hillbilly tucked away in a Tennessee holler. Tengalil sixteen inch barrel, refinished, and installed with the "push to fire" left side thumb selector lever. Could never get used to "pull to fire" from the parts kit. Oh, ETA: Jeff opened up one of the rear apertures a few thousands of an inch to make a "ghost ring". |

What kind of mod is the "push to fire" thumb selector? In other words, does it require all new parts or just a reversal of the existing linkage? I agree that is way more intuitive. |

OK, so hardly changed at all. That is encouraging. And you also used Wolff XP springs? |

Quoted: Forward to fire is a whole new set of parts. Quoted: Quoted: Looks great. What kind of mod is the "push to fire" thumb selector? This, plus it required a bushing in the left side of the receiver since the hole for the selector lever is smaller in diameter for the "push to fire" parts. |

They aren't as common. There is a set on gunbroker now. Not mine. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/886992051 |

The "push to fire" feature was standard on the original IMI semi auto Galils. The military rifles had no linkage, just a left side lever placed directly on the left side of the safety lever. Thus the "pull to fire". The civilian guns had added linkage to reverse this function. |

Thank you for this post! The picture of your modified follower is extremely helpful. I just purchased some 12 rd mags from CDNN and they had the old style black tilting type AR followers in them, not Galil followers. I actually broke 1 of the base plate locking tabs forcing a Magpul follower in there. I have noticed there seems to be no Galil followers around, makes me wonder why magpul or Elander don't make some. There seems to be a market for them . |

Not to high jack the thread but this is interesting. I was wondering why Flannel Daddy was bitching about the safety on the galil because mine is push to fire. Now it makes sense. Thank you. Back on topic - I like the idea of changing followers, but I am curious if anyone has had any issues with factory galil mags so that this is really an issue? |

The 12rd blank firing mags did not have full size followers since the mag had the block in the front to prevent live rounds from being inserted. So after removing the block, i needed full size followers. |

My mags have been purchased from Apex in the past few years and I've had some FTF that I'm guessing might be mag spring related since its out of a Jeff Miller build. Supposedly Wolff is going to put out some galil-specific mag springs sometime soon. |
