Let me preface this by saying I am 70 years old, and not a Mall Ninja, Keyboard Komando, or Wannabe operator. While I have 20+ years as an LEO, 7 years military, and even a couple as a domestic Security Contractor on a Homeland Security gig, I am NOT expecting to have to fight a war, and don't expect TEOTWAWKI or WTSHTF before I die. I got my first AK in about 1984 or 85, a Poly Tec "spiker" that I had for 15 years. Since 2000 have had over a dozen AKs of different flavors (Yugo, WASR, Hungarian, Saigas (restored to military configuration), East German, Riley Defense, and Pioneer). I think the AK is a fabulous piece of engineering, and a great piece of combat kit. The problem is, I'd rather shoot my Mini-14 and Mini-30 (MUCH more accurate than any AK I have had, my AR15, or even my USGI WW2 M1 Carbine! I keep trying to feel the love for the AK. While I respect it as a platform, I never can quite "love" the AK! With that said, Atlantic Firearms had Pioneer Arms Polish AKs for $629, so about two months ago, I pulled the pin and got one, mostly "just because" an AK in the safe is a good thing! The problem is, the cast trunnion, bolt, and carrier bugged me. On Father's day, I saw PSA had the Commiefornia compliant GF3 Forged Classic for $679, only $50 more than the Pioneer. I watched all five of Rob Ski's videos on the GF3, and based on his thumbs up after 5,000 rounds, I ordered one. Locally, I found a guy who gave me a cou[ple hundred more than I paid for the Pioneer, thus more than covering the total cost of the PSA GF3. As I work part time at the local gun shop, I worked off the dealer fee and CA DROS. I still have all my pre-ban and freedom week mags (including 5 flat back Chinese from my Type 56 "Spiker" I had for 15 years), a bunch of spare parts including an extra Bulgarian bolt assembly, and over 3,000 rounds of ammo, so I am set. I plan on using a Phoenix Technologies palm swell grip, rather than the fin to be Commiefornia compliant. It comes with black polymer, though I will probably switch that for something like a Polish laminated wood set, or maybe even plum poly in the future. |

| The new PSA GF3 came into the shop today and started 10 day Commiefornia jail. Checked it out, and fit and finish is gorgeous. As advertised forged trunnion, bolt and carrier. Used a bore sighter and the FSB id dead straight, and sight dead center in it. Ordered some of the new Polish laminate furniture from Atlantic for $119. Also ordered a bakelite pistol grip. Probably get a kydex paddle for it, though I do like the palm swell grip. Pics to come |

If you want a rifle that will work any time you pick it up, ... well you just bought it. Nothing fancy, it will shoot where you aim it every time you aim it and squeeze the trigger. It is a minute of man rifle that will simply do it's job if you do yours. Remember it is a belt buckle rifle and it just works. I have gotten a coyote at 400yds with my GF3 and it was two inch's lower than i aimed, and yes that may have been me. If your interested, the brown bear sub sonic 196gr plays hell on larger game. Great buy and great rifle. |
