Very nice Templar!

What does an original Yugo AK sling look like? Are all the slings on the Yugo AK models (7.62x39 and 7.62x51) the same?

Templar,

Very nice.  Gets me excited for the incoming Centerfire ones.

Do you think you could take some calipers and see exactly how thick that stamped receiver is?  When I converted millimeters to inches, I got 1.5mm = .059".  Cold Steel's RPK receiver is .064".  I am hoping that this will work or that someone will make a blank that will work with these kits.  I think it would be a pain to mill off 0.0025" from each side, especially with the swelled-out tops of the trunions.

I thought that maybe 1.5mm was approximate, and it's really closer to .064"?  (Keeping my fingers crossed...)

Nice B2 (US) Templar.
I have a B1, with an ACE Tube folding stock.

While I have an obvious byass, the Yugo m70s are bar none the best AKM variant out there.  There is a drawback of not having cromelined barrels, but that's only a drawback for those that don't take care of their weapons.
I've shot many AK variants, and the Yugo is the only AK that I've never seen jam.
Testimony to its superior reliability is when a American Serb friend of mine went to Iraq for duty with Blackwater, he didn't take an M4, M14, SAW, G3 or SIG551, he took a Yugo M70B2 underfolder for his security duty.  His report was that it "rocked", digesting evrerything that needed to be thrown.
(Note, I've heard that the Iraqi Army issued Yugos don't hold up quite as well.  This is presumably because they were shipped to pre-93 Iraq as kits and the Iraqis didn't assemble them quite as well.)

Granted, my judgment that the Yugo is the preiminent AKM does not include the Galil, R4 or Valmet in the AKM pool.  Those aren't true AKMs; they're beyond AKMs.  (arguably, the Valmet 62 should be included, but I've never seen one, let alone met anyone that has shot one.)

Bottom line, if there is only one weapon I can take, its my Yugo (with a bottle of bore solvent).

BEAUTIFUL GUN TEMPLAR !
I'm calling Lois today and order a kit.
Hope they are nice kits.
There is a group buy going on for custom receivers for these at weaponeer.
$80. with correct selector markings.
Don't know who's making em.
I heard Vulcan/hesse makes a shell also, but not sure.

a) akparts.com has Yugo slings!  The 'hook' is a standard carbine hook, but it is def. Yugo with a heavy metal tab.

b) want to sell your original non-GL gas block?

Honestly, underfolders get mega cool points for style, but the cheek weld sucks...and it's not very comfortable......but it's just the thing for toting around and looking cool in Sadr City or the West Bank......

I prefer the underfolder to the wooden stock.  I find the wooden stock AKs very uncomfortable.

I have a M70 built on a DC Industries reciever and it is super quality.  Just thought I would add my 2 cents.

Same here Grassyjoe.

Mine was built from a hand-picked kit by Elite Firearms, and it is as straight as a rail. Nothing canted, there's no rattling mag syndrome, and the original barrel looks just as good as new. Just no chrome lining.

The guys ove at DC Industires, and Elite have done their homework.

It puts my Century built WASR to shame.

I wasn't too sure about the Duracoat finish, but it's durability is way bettern than the park job on my WASR.

Templar,

Where is your receiver cover lock? That thing comes in handy when stripping it down, and putting it back together.

When I first got mine, I was like... what the hell! After I figured it out, it was like whoaa!

1500$ for a M70 ? Thats way too much ! Last time i went to serbia, i`d have been able to buy a mint new M70 and a M74 ( sniper ), full auto army rifles out of the box, 600€ Euros each... but i just dont like AK`s... a friend of mine has got some at home, i dont need to buy some...

Well, yes, it's certanly possible, but they aren't cheap. This one ran me about $1.5K.

so you are saying that you paid $1500 for that yugo underfolder?that's a little rich for my blood. My dad bought one in great brand new condition, looked like it had never been fired for $575 the other day. he asked me what i though and i told him to get it for the simple fact that he dosen't have one, and what better ak to get then a yugo and an underfolder at that.

The yugo UF your dad bought has an American made receiver and was most likely assembled by Century Arms.  Templar's UF is 100% Yugoslavian.

Nice Rifle.
I just brought home a M70AB2 Yugo underfolder with black plastic forearm
It appears mine has a dull parkerized finish instead of a satin blue finish like the one pictured above. It also just has "S" and "F" at the safety lever instead of "FIRE" and "SAFE". The black plastic pistol grip on mine has finger grooves.
It was imported by Century International Arms.
I got it at Keisler's in Jeffersonville IN for under $500.
I hope I got a good deal?

Can anyone tell me what that flip up sight is for and how to properly use it?
It's just behind the standard front sight and lays flat on the gas tube on my Yugo.
It seems to be specific to Yugos, as I have not noticed it other models.

its a grenade launcher sight, flip it up and it helps with the high arc of nades.

It also shuts off the gas return so that the entire blast of the blank round goes out the muzzle and shoots the nade a long way.

Those exact Yugo AK's are going for $599 in my neck of the woods.  They are selling too, not collecting dust in the racks.  I think people are getting a bit antsy with the election coming up next year.  Buy now while you can and stock up on the ammo, too.
