Just some observations. I shot a new PSA AKP and a AK74 today. I liked them both. The AK pistol American bastard was spot on for elevation but about three inches to the right at 25 yards. Within my expectations. Great gun although the arm brace on it is bendy and flexible. Kinda weird but worked. AK74 was 9 inches low at 25 yards and 2 inches to the left. A little excessive but easy fix. Rifle shot very well using old Bulgarian surplus and some silver bear. Very very nice recoil impulse. Follow up shots are a breeze with it. I've shot a tantal and a sgl31 before and the PSA's recoil felt better I was able to adjust elevation with a pair of needle nose pliers but didn't have a tool for windage so... Next time. I fired 210 rounds of 5.45 and experienced one failure to fire caused by the Bulgarian ammo having a bad primer. There was also a failure to chamber. Round chambered and fired the second try. Maybe a magazine problem as they had been left loaded since 2013. Primer strikes all looked good/solid. Fired 120 rounds of 7.62x39 of the remanufactured golden tiger stuff from SGAmmo (smells great). There were two failure to chamber/failure to extracts. One I think caused by a pmag not fitting right and then did not feed right after I forced it in... I should have spent time to file it down to fit but ended up leaving it next to the trash can Incase anyone else wanted it. The second seemed like the bolt didn't slam home with enough force to engage the extractor. I felt both happen and didn't pull the trigger until clearing the failures. I also shot some yugo m67 no issues. The scope rail mount for the AK74 was aligned well or atleast more well aligned than arsenal did on a SG21 I tried the same mount on.. Overall I like both of the guns with accuracy exceeding my expectations. I hope PSA makes a American Bastard in 5.45 so I can buy it! Update: I'm on my second punctured primer in 360 rounds through a psak74 so far. Hole is where the firing pin hits. Shooting surplus Bulgarian ammo. Easy to tell the difference as an abundance of smoke flows from the action  I checked the rifle and no other issues shooting 150 rounds today besides one of the first few having the punctured primer. I picked up a front sight tool and got the rifle zeroed and it shoots pretty good for a AK. |

Easy to tell the difference as an abundance of smoke flows from the action I checked the rifle and no other issues shooting 150 rounds today besides one of the first few having the punctured primer. I picked up a front sight tool and got the rifle zeroed and it shoots pretty good for a AK. |

I've had a few do the same running Academies Monarch 5.45. First round out of the box was very smokey with two or four more through 60 rounds. Even had a stove pipe on one round. Ran Wolf, Tula, and Silver Bear with no issues. Been running the rifle hard with 330+ rounds through it. Recoil is softer than the Waffen Works I had (that kaboomed with a tula round). I do notice that tula and red army standard don't eject to outer space, but the few 7n6 I have ran, and the monarch and silver bear were ejecting like how I remember. Other caveat, but I'm pretty sure it is the round itseft, shooting close up (5 yards) I am notice key-holing, but once I stretch back at 15 yards and further I see no keyholing, and the keyholing is very slight. Only thing I've changed was I put my old bulgarian wood and gas tube on it, and the bulgarian muzzle brake. Good job PSA for making the rifle truly interchangeable. Was worried if it was going to be a Poor Soviet Abomination.

@Jman_JJE OP: hate to slightly hijack your thread, but I have had a few primer punches. Was walking my driveway were I shoot sometimes, picked up some casings I noticed one with a very deep primer punch.  Noticed that I had about 4-5 rounds fired that left a lot of smoke from the 80 rounds on Monarch ammo I fired from Academy. I remember my first round doing this in this shooting session. About 180 rounds were fired before this session. 332 rounds through the rifle total. Other ammo used was Tula, Red Army, Wolf, Silver Bear, and 2 rounds of 7n6. Didn't notice this problem with those ammo selections. |

I had a Waffen Werks 74 that blew up, so I'm really happy in getting another 74. Only thing that bothers me slightly is it key-holes at close range (5 yards) but once I get back around 10-25 yards it stops. |

There is a slow motion video of Larry Vickers shooting an AK74 and you can see it yawing coming out of the barrel and then quickly straightening up. 5.45 is a very unique round. |

Got my 74 back from PSA. 240 rounds fired so far. Looks like it was disassembled and some parts replaced. Not going to speculate exactly what was done but when I rezero'd it my front sight post is now centered when the rifle is zeroed. No more punctured primers so far. I did not clean the rifle upon getting it back as it was returned with a nice coating of oil. After 180 rounds fired I started getting failures to feed. This persisted occuring every 3 to 5 rounds. I cleaned the rifle and the failures stopped but I only had 30 rounds left to fire that day. Going to take 300 rounds later this week and see how she does. |

300 or so more rounds fired. Rifle has not jammed since my last report. Accuracy seems decreased or something is shifting from when I originally purchased it prior to return for repair but I did not do a great job documenting it so plan on putting the gun on a rest and measuring group sizes. I feel like I'm chasing a zero each range trip with both iron sights and optics. As mentioned I need to take more of the "me" out of this and rest the rifle measure a few groups to see. I'm not expecting a AR of course but I hope this gun can hold 4ish MOA like my sgl21. |
