Hi guys,
I have recently come into possession of a Maadi AK. It looks beat all to hell, has rust spots and looks like it has been spray painted. The stock and fore grips are wood but the grip is black plastic. I'm an AR guy myself so looking for some tips and advice. What do I have and what should I do with it?? Thanks for any help. |
 Like I said I know nothing about the Ak's lol. ( Didnt realize there were different markings other than Maadi/Egypt) I currently have it resting at my work place coated in solvent. I took it apart and OMG it was filthy!! At the moment I can only say that the SN's match up. I will get some pics and the marking info tomorrow and post it.

Ok so left side is stamped MISR -10 SEMI AUTO
Right Side is MADE BY MAADI CO IN EGYPT IMPORTER CAI 5t and either AIB or D VT Has a green canvass sling, matching SN's on the receiver and bolt. From doing some research today I believe this is an AKM variant? I havent shot it but functions check just fine. Just looks like a POS ha ha. However it was a free POS so. I'm trying to find out what I can to determine what I want to do with it. Fix it up or just keep it as a SHTF backup. Thanks for any help. |
| You have a good Egyptian AKM. There were models out there where Century used Chinese parts on Egyptian receivers that are complete shit (that what I thought you had originally). The Misr-10's are good AKM's, and the shitty finish on it is a factory shitty finish that the Egyptians are known for. If it were me, I'd pick up one of the Egyptian folding stocks now while they're available and shoot the piss out of it. |

| Cool deal, thanks for the info. Any typical method for stripping off that finish and making it a little more sexy? lol Duracoat maybe? It only came with one mag and thats a rusty POS also. Are the polymer Tapco mags a good fit with these rifles or stick with the metal surplus mags?? |

Let it sit in it for like an hour or so then wipe off. repeat as necessary. There are a lot of finishes you can use. On my MAADI rifles I tend to use Duplicolor engine enamel. It looks like the original finish but holds up way better. I usually just paint and put it in grill at 120 degrees for like 20 mins to bake the enamel. The best finish is Norrell's Moly Resin. You can send your rifle to them and they will refinish it and sand blast the old finish off. Last time I checked he only charges $110 to do it. That is a damn good price. Avoid TRASHCO, I mean TAPCO...lol. Their mags are junk. Just buy surplus steel mags. MAADI accesory kit I bought this kit this week and I am VERY impressed. Egyptian bayonets are usually shit quality. I got an unissued brand new bayonet, mags, and sling. I'm stoked. I have paid $100 just for a shitty MAADI bayonet in the past. They have been super rare for years. MAADI rifles are a gem. Once you refinish them they are beautiful. Refinish the wood too and you will be very happy. Use Zinsser's Bulls Eye Amber Shellac on the wood...no stain. I think a little piece of my soul dies when I see guys butcher their MAADI with all that "modern" crap like rails and collapsible stocks. |
