There's really no good way to hold the bolt open on an AK. You don't want the mag to do it, because the bolt is just slamming into the mag, plus if you pull the mag to reload, your bolt closes. A bolt hold open would work better if it were a part of the gun itself. BUT, you're not the first to ask for that.

I am glad to see that someone in the us finally makes a 20 round and would really like to see a 15 rounder. My limited experience with us made plastic magazines is that they will not fit my romanian rifle, where as the 20 round steel hungarian magazine work just fine. PErhaps I will try the TAPCO 20 rd mag. I still wish that us palm was making one. I use tapco trigger/sear/disconnectors and they work well so maybe the mags will also be good.
For serious use 20 rounds in a semi-auto is enough rounds and makes the rifle handier. It is not how many shots you fire, rather the first ones that hit the target that count the most. I do not believe in spray and pray. Aimed volleys are the way to go. |

A bolt hold open (BHO) capability would be nice but to do it, as the Yugos did, you need a specifically designed steel follower that will hold the bolt open, coupled with a cutout in the safety lever that that engages the hook on the bolt carrier so the bolt stays locked back after the magazine is removed. Without the cutout, all the follower does is tell you when the mag is empty by holding the bolt back until the mag is removed at which point the bolt goes into battery on an empty chamber. Modifying the safety lever is easy enough but if the mag follower is resin, as is the TAPCO, eventually you'll gouge it to the point that it no longers holds back the bolt carrier. HTH |

No issues using hp and FMJ ammo, Liked it so much I bought two more 20's and a 30. The three US parts make 922r conversions that much easier. For less than $13 these are great mags. |
