I got a ak63d milled under folder that I need to get the barrel replaced A. Suggestions on a barrel that should do the trick? B. Suggestions on a shop and any guesses on what that costs? I was thinking this. https://www.gmriflebarrel.com/GMRBItem.aspx?Item=AK47-7GM |

It's a milled receiver set up to accept an AKM pinned barrel. In theory it should be easier for a gunsmith to rebarrel it versus a stamped receiver. |

Holy shit yeah I once helped a guy out at the range who had a locked up 74. I boot checked it and out came a LIVE rusted 7n6 round. He had put it away like that over a year he said. The entire thing was rusted and fucked. Barrel, bolt head, gas block, all of it, huge glob of rust on the piston. I told him that surplus was corrosive and he just said "what's that mean?" |

Damn, that is bad! Worse than Yugo AK barrels! My dad once fired just a couple Chinese corrosive rounds (he didn’t realize they were) thru a chinese AK, left it, and the piston rusted into the gas block, gas block was nasty but I knocked it loose and cleaned it up…. There is a reason OEM barrels and pistons are chromed. Anyhow I am a big fan of making sure the gas tube and gas block are cleaned well and covered in some oil if there is any doubt if any of the ammo was corrosive. Corrosive is just fine- just clean it! |

Originally Posted By kychas: Was electrolysis used to remove the rust from the old barrel? The pits look clean I've cleaned a few sewer pipes of barrels to make sure. Swapping barrels is a pita and before I go through that hassle want to have no doubts. |

Well I got one back.. the other had issues and he's working to address it. But the under folder is gtg. I'll wait till it's all done to comment. |
