I haven't kept up with pricing lately. An acquaintance is selling his Russian VEPR. Can someone tell me what a fair price for this model would be right now? Is $1,500 fair? Thanks.

| My 100% stock 308 VEPR, with the 23" or whatever 20+" barrel they could have, sold for about $900 at auction with the box and accessories. One of my worst performing weapons to sell at RIA this year. Most everything else did a little better than break even with a few doing well above what I expected. I did a big downsizing of my collection. With fees it about broke even. My VEPR 12 with the same deal wasnt much better. |

I'm no expert but IMO that's a little steep. I'd vote for closer to the $1100-$1200 range. The more desirable would be 54r IMO or 7.62/5.45. VEPRs are awesome because they appeal to the purist, in a way. 308 takes away from that a bit. Also the thumbhole stock+slant cut receiver and the mags will be a bit annoying. All that being said I've seen them all over the place. People will list a *39 for $2k. But of course that's what they're being listed for, not what they're selling for. |

Have him take the purchase price and add 3.5% to it for every year owned and compounded. That’s the break-even price accounting for inflation. If he bought it during a panic or COVIDs, that doesn’t apply. If he bought it as an investment at the bottom of the market, he still loses money because It’ll never track with the S&P 500 or a good mutual fund. The fair price will be determined when he and the buyer come to an agreement and money changes hands. It’s a fluid number that cannot be predicted here or anywhere else, except for in reality in real time. But I don’t know shit…ask anyone on the internet.

I think this configuration is perfect for the 54r or 308 VEPRs - like a PSL but higher quality. |
