I recently picked up a milled Mak 90 off of gunbroker and have also been collecting parts to have it converted to a milled type 56 Spiker. Those who have had this done, do you have any suggestions? I am planning on having the rear of the receiver cut off and a proper rear welded on, and the gun reblued. One question I have is does the gas block need to be replaced for proper authenticity? From what I can tell from photos, the spiker gas blocks have little ears on the bottom that allow the cleaning rod to sit in between them, whereas the Mak 90 gas blocks have that (or the bayo lug) milled off. Parts I currently have: Spike bayonet Spiker FSB Chinese pistol grip Chinese spiker lower front hand guard (for stamped receiver, I’m assuming it will need to be modified) Chinese cleaning rod Will need a new rear fixed stock Builder says he has a rear receiver piece to reweld to my gun Is there anything I’m missing, besides the gas block if needed? |

I had CW Gunwerks do mine. Carlos has done 5 or 6 builds for me and I have always been pleased with the results. I was luck and really the only thing that needed to be done was the barrel cut and thread, and the rear lower tang installed, along with the spiker FSB install. TurboThis did mine. I supplied the gun, furniture, bayonet assembly, and sling loop for the side of the receiver. He did everything else. I didn't change the gas block, it looks and works fine. I did the crappy cold blue job at home when I got it back.
