I took a slivers worth off of them due to the extra thickness of my reciever. Then when bottoming the stock into the reciever the right side and bottom hit first, stopping the holes from lining up. It took a 1/16"or so with the sawzall blade by hand to get it properly seated. It is 100% sturdy. Possibly more than most because it just barely fits. Its tight and not wiggiling anywhere. |

| I just order the Zhukov's from AIM, but having to dremel off the retainer is going to be the hardest thing to do emotionally. I'll have to love the look, because it's pretty much permanent. I tried pulling the front sight off so I could simply remove the retainer, and although I got the pins out, that son-of-a-bitch wouldn't budge. Oh well, I like the way the Zhukov parts look, but I'm glad I have another AK, and that one will remain in its virgin state. |

I took the dremel to my milled Arsenal SLR-95, retainer was gone in 10 min, no regrets. I wrapped the barrel before and after the retainer in electric tape so it was decently thick just for some extra slip of the cut off wheel protection. I used a 1 1/4" metal cutoff wheel on full RPMs and just cut a little at a time, stopping and inspecting how much further I would have to go every 5-7 seconds. Did one nice cut on each side and it knocked right off with a hammer |

Sublimeon24s did a great job of explaining exactly how I did this too. The reason I didn't video that portion is I didn't want to get any metal dust on my camera. Thank you for the kind words, I am glad you enjoyed the video. cheers tire iron |

Or do that to remove it in the first place. It just so happens that more basement gunsmithts have a dremel than a press. |

Like I said, it devalues the gun, no ifs ands or buts. I don't have the tools to do that myself, so unless I wanted to keep the Zhukov handguard, any rifle is worth 100 less if i'm looking to buy. If not more for my time and trouble toting it to-and-fro. Some of you guys seem to think EVERYBODY will just love this handguard, and it does look cool and i'm sure it will continue to sell like gangbusters....UNTIL the next gen comes out and Magpul figures out a workaround (and so far they ALWAYS do), or someone else comes out with a better one that doesn't require the handguard retainer to be cut off. At that point your handguard will be worth zilch for re-sale, and the rifle itself will be worth 100 less if you can even find guys willing to fool with it or deal with gunsmith charges. If you plan on keeping it forever, good on ya, but that's not what this discussion is about so all the guys itching to post yet again about how they never sell guns, please consider it already said (as it has been over and over again ad nauseum). |

Glad where I live everyone loves "tactical" looking rifles.........The Zhukov handguard would be a bonus if I go to sell mine.......for every purist out there who would not want to buy it, there will be 6 or 7 mid 20-40yr olds who will love it
Last time I listed my SLR-95 on my local gun trader website, with its "AR-15" appearance, as a feeler for $1400 I had quite a few looking to purchase the day it was listed.............all in which i refused because I decided to keep the rifle |

For every guy this is worth $100 less to, there will be another guy that can't wait to have this. No different than almost every other accessory out there. I will have this on a few AK's, not all though. Different strokes and all that. |

Hey Magpul, any ETA on the OD green furniture? Need an AKM handguard and MOE stock for the SA-85.
FYI for all: top handguard on the AKM set needed minor fitting on both rifles I tried it on, hits the bottom piece and wouldn't let the gas tube all the way down to lock, not at all a biggie as I prefer oversize parts and hand fitting them, just took 30 seconds or so on flat surface with some 220 grit. Handguard retainer sling loop is a different matter, little too close there Magpul, makes it almost unuseable, just another couple millimeters would do, a standard AK sling works barely, but no go with an HK-type hook. Filing it for more clearance wouldn't look too bad I guess. |

I guess guys are as bad about being fashion freaks as women are. I have mixed feelings about the AKM handguard so far, admittedly it looks badass on the wife's WASR, but it's awfully big and bulky, folks with small hands might not like it, much heavier than a standard handguard too. Fit is nice and tight though and that's a plus, just need a little more clearance for the sling loop. I like the top portion, and it looks damn good with a standard lower in fact, the top is worth buying by itself, much sturdier than most, and slightly overlaps a standard bottom. |

Hmm.....my Saigas don't have handguard retainers. Imagine that. Plus the Zhukov forend will make it easier to mount a light and foregrip or handstop, and it has a friggin aluminum chassis that doubles as a heat sink. And I never liked the stock Saiga forend. It looks nice, feels good in the hand, but has been known to have heat issues. |

Just got my magpul stock, handguard and pistol grip on my Saiga installed now to mount my reddot on the MI 30 ak mount.
I like that Saiga in green but em wondering how you got the top part of the magpul hand guard to fit, mine is really tight and is still not seated right. I need to fine out how to post pics |

As much as my response will bother you, I don't care about grammar, punctuation, or spelling. I'm a budding, failing comedian, not an English major. Deal with it!

Not into the Draco but that looks cool.
Ran into a small problem today while installing it on an RPK. As the barrel is heavier, I will been to dremel or mill out the metal retainer clips . Right now it looks like I am trying to put a 30mm scope in 1 inch rings. Minor work with the right tools and I believe there will be plenty of metal left for this to work. |

Here is my live fire review of the Zhukov, hope you enjoy it.
