I am not super knowledgeable on the AK platforms. I own several different calibers of ak’s and would like to pick up some affordable range mags. So I’m asking you guys who are knowledgeable: What are good, affordable mags in 762, 545, and 556? I have seen some advertised as having “bolt hold open followers”… are they any good? Thanks for any help and knowledge shared. |

Thanks for any help and knowledge shared. I've had good luck with KCI 7.62 mags. Anything surplus for 7.62 will be G2G. My PMags have been G2G too. 5.45 is anything surplus. I run mostly Bulgarian polymers and east German bakes. The Magpul 545 mags seem to be fine. I cut one down to 20rnds a while back. Too many variables in 556 to recommend anything. No real standard. If you happen to get a gun that has the Bulgarian magwell run ((10)) mags. That magwell is closer to 7.62 than 5.45. It is wider than 5.45 and my 545 mags wiggle around in there. Arsenal has that magwell as are Saiga. BHO followers just hold the bolt open with the follower. Pull the mag out and the bolt will slam home. The difference is you have a visual of it's empty vs the click of nothing in the chamber. I don't see any reason go have those over standard mags unless they are cheaper. Anything bakelite has gotten crazy expensive. ((10)) 223 mags have gotten expensive too. Magpul mags are about the only ones that have not gotten crazy expensive. |

Thanks for any help and knowledge shared. I can probably chime in for 5.56 mags, if you're looking for the Bulgarian/Yugo pattern mags. Circle 10 is the gold standard, then I'd say Polish 5.56 mags, and the AC Unity mags. AC is pretty affordable at around $14. They have a bolt hold open feature though. |

I see they have two versions at about $10 per difference? I've used both Magpuls, both work fine but the more expensive version has metal reinforcements in the lockup surfaces, so they should be more durable. The MOE mags are all plastic. |

Yep. With better pictures the metal reinforcements are easy to see  All the Bulgarians I have have both lugs reinforced and feedlips. These are the $14.99 model for sale on gun mag warehouse(the ones you linked to) The cheaper model does not have a reinforced rear lug. |
