My PARS Maadi has the usual post ban turned down threads at the muzzle.
The diameter is .475 in in diameter, too narrow for the 1/2x28 slant brake  got from cncwarrior.com
That brake slips onto the muzzle with no effort, so re-threading the barrel is out of the question.
However, the fit is nice and slightly tight, with little wobble.
Therefore I wonder if the brake could be soldered to the front sight tower or the retaining pin itself?

Anyone in the same boat?

I have a PARS Maadi but never have done anything with the muzzle.
You might could tack weld it but without threads to seal the space, gas will vent back down rhe barrel and the pressure will eventually blow the muzzle device off.

ETA; you could replace the Egypt barrel with a U.S. made version.

Thx for your reply, but exchanging a barrel for lack of threads would not be worth it IMHO.
The brake slips on easily but with minimal play.
I was thinking of wrapping the ex threaded area with a thin brass shim/jacket, then hammering the brake home, followed by a silver solder joint between the brake flange and the front sight post.

Jorge

Either shorten & re-thread the barrel.

Thread the OD you have and make an extension sleeve to fit that & then thread the end of the sleeve to your desired OD & pitch.

Find a muzzle device that can be made to fit your muzzle OD.

Mine measured around .475" way short of rethread size.I think the minumum is .505"
But I do have a sleeve a friend of mine made yrs. ago that slips over the barrel end.We made it the size so a bayonet eyelet will slip over it ok.Now I'll just have to fix the bayo ears.At least I can mount a bayo then for a zombie attack.

I have a Pars Maadi it was made in 1993. Mine had an od of .490 and I was able to use the CNC Warrior dye and thread kit and 1/2 x 28 RH slant brake.

BOOM!  I did two of mine like that and CNC Warrior has other brakes available.

How about replace it with a pre ban / military maadi barrel? I've got 2 that I put aside for the future.

About your 2nd or 3rd shot will have your CNC Warrior brake headed down range.  Weld it to the FSB or have a collar machined and attached to the muzzle so it can be threaded and done the right way.

The set screw or epoxied brakes wont work.

The best bet is to thread the barrel to 1/2x28 and buy the US made 1/2x28 slant brake and the retaining pin/spring combo. It will look perfect. Just to plant a seed, it's easy to weld up some tabs to restore the milled down bayonet lug. Quite ease to shape with a dremel and handfiles.

If you drill holes in the side of the brake in at least 3 places and weld it directly to the barrel and then to the FSB it will be on there well.

just had this same problem on a friends  pars  maadi ak it was turned down to small for the 1/2 inch die ..but fit fairly tight over the threads so we spot welded  the slant break to the front sight post and smoothed the weld down with a drimmel  it looked great and no problems after several hundred  rounds  looks much better than that skinny barrel up front .  its to bad they had to f@#$ up the barrels of these AKs for some dumb ass law to be california compliant .. anyways good luck...

That was done so the entire US could be compliant from 1994 to 2004 during the Assault Weapon Ban that stopped all crime in this country incidentally.

1/2x28 and CNC warrior makes every AK brake/flash hider for this thread.

So, just to be clear, if one gets all the necessary items from CNC Warrior - tap, wrench, guide, brake, pin, and spring - a MISR can be made "correct"?

It will depend on the OD of your particular muzzle. Mine worked at .490". I think that is the right at the absolute minimum needed for it to work.

My dad brought his Maadi MISR over last weekend and we checked, it was .490" just like you indicated so he had me order everything he needed..

He got all the items from CNC Warrior today and it worked, barrel's threaded and braked.  He sandblasted all the paint off of it and refinished it and is going to add a US made Warsaw length black stock and handguard set from K-Var.  I think a laminated and properly finished stock set from Ironwood would have made it just perfect but it's his so he can do as he wishes.  At least he has and is keeping the garrish teal green sling that came with it.

7n6 - thanks for the recommendation, if I recall I don't think he paid over $300 (could have been the mid-$200s) back in the mid/late 90s so this little project really tickled his 72 year-old fancy.

Pics when he brings it for show-and-tell this weekend.

Damnit now you guys got me thinking about my new Maadi might now work right for thread pitch. Hell I bought a 1/2 x 28 CNC slant comp, now not sure that will even work.

So am I correct in assuming from reading this thread that a Maadi MISR S/A with an OD  of .481" won't work with the 1/2-28  brake?

I've got one with a .470 muzzle.

Thinking I might blast the paint off and do a series of tack welds to build it up a bit and then thread it.
I don't have a license to kill, but I do have a learner's permit.

A good way to know for sure it will not work is if the 1/2 x 28 RH slant brake slides over the end of the muzzle freely before you thread. It may be worth buying one from CNCwarrior before buying the threading tools to check. If it slides over or almost does, threading will not help/work.
