Buddy of mine wants to sell me his MAK-90 Sporter. It has black, plastic stock versus thumb hole stock. All numbers matching. Front hand guard has a wobbly, plastic pic rail attached with Home Depot screws. On plus side, all serial numbers match and it is in very good shape. He's a friend and could use the money. I'm thinking $1000 is a fair price. Any advice what to do with this after I buy it, besides stashing it in gun safe to never see daylight again? EDIT: Took off the cheap plastic stick and it's a straight back receiver versus a slant back |

Shoot the hell out of it? It is what they were made for… 1k is probably reasonable if you are wanting to be a very good friend. Probably a lot more than I might haggle over at a show for a rifle with crummy handguards and a slant receiver. But if it has a decent looking stock on it, the handguards are easy enough to swap out. They are good rifles, that is just kind of the least desirable of the chinese variants. |

Appreciate the response. He is the son of a good friend who recently died. He kept what he wants from dad's collection and this is one left over. I'm thinking $1000 is fair as he is young and needs the money. I like your idea of shooting the shit out of it. LOL!! I may install a side mount, so I can add a scope. It will need a cheek riser on the open stock |

$1000 seems like a good price for both you and the seller. I bought a similar one from Doug's in WVC back in 1994, but have changed out the thumbhole stock for Ironwood furniture (RIP to the Ironwood owner/designer - he made great stuff). It's kind of clunky, and I prefer ARs, but it works mostly and looks cool. Mine is in great condition and I'm guessing would sell for $1500 or so if I wanted to sell it. |
