So I packed those up close to 7 years ago, and thought I'd check in and see how the ammo was doing in them. I do this the easy way, with all sorts of ammo; I just dump all the rounds out of the boxes into the ammo can, and toss all but one box. When the ammo can is full, I take the one empty box, cut off the one side that has ammo details including lot #, and put that in the can on top of the ammo. You can fit lots more loose ammo in than being constrained by box size and shape. On the back of the box label, I write on it how many rounds I put in the can. If the can is full, I note that; otherwise I note how high that many rounds came up on the side of the can. Easy Peasy. |

1000 rounds of 7.62x39 fits in a .50 cal can whether it's in boxes or loose. May as well leave it in the boxes so you can have an accurate count. If you ever want to sell it it makes it way more valuable if its in the original boxes in my experience. I often grab boxes out of the range trash can and put my reloads in it to keep better track of them and for easier storage. I hate loose ammo if you cant tell.

Good and useful thread, kudos to the OP for fixing pic links and to those who have bumped it to keep it out of the archives. I've had a bunch of fun over the years packing and re-packing ammo boxes, kinda like a jigsaw puzzle, it's fun seeing how much you can squeeze in there. FYI just to add to the database, I have a wooden crate that originally had a couple spam cans of 7.62x54, ammo is long gone but I kept the crate, and it's just big enough that 1800 rounds of GT fit perfectly, i'd take a pic but it's at the bottom of the ammo fort, lol. I love GT ammo, but the one thing I hate about it, is that the damn boxes fall apart if you even look at them funny.
